Blumhouse’s ‘The Woman In The Yard’ Adds Okwui Okpokwasili

EXCLUSIVE: Okwui Okpokwasili has been set to star in Jaume Collet-Serra’s The Woman in the Yard from Blumhouse for Universal.

The actress joins Danielle Deadwyler, who was previously announced.

Like all Blumhouse movies in the works, the pic’s plot is being kept secret.

This is a reteaming for Okpokwasili with Blumhouse as she previously starred in their fall title Exorcist: Believer. She also stars in Marvel Studios/Disney+’s upcoming series, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, and has starred in Master for Prime Video; and in such movies as RemoteMadeline’s Madeline, and Bronx Gothic.

In 2022, she starred in in the critically acclaimed Broadway revival of for colored girls who have considered suicide / when the rainbow is enuf. Her work has been commissioned by BAM, The Walker Art Center, Danspace Project, Performance Space New York, the Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA, among other institutions. She has held residencies at MoMA, Maggie Allesee National Choreographic Center, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, the Rauschenberg Foundation Captiva Residency, and New York Live Arts, where she was a Randjelovic/Stryker Resident Commissioned Artist. Okpokwasili is represented by Innovative Artists and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

The Woman in the Yard is written by Sam Stefanak. Jason Blum and Stephanie Allain are producers on the film. Collet-Serra, Deadwyler, Gabrielle Ebron, Scott Greenberg and James Moran are executive producers. Haley Pigman and Jungyoon Kim are the executives covering the film for Blumhouse. The Woman in the Yard is a Blumhouse production for Universal.

Collet-Serra directed Dwayne Johnson’s biggest solo opening at the box office, Black Adam for Warner Bros/DC, which debued to $67M and finaled at $168.1M stateside, $393.4M WW.
