Borus stroll to second win in Division One

Kinawley picked up their second win of Division One in dominant fashion, running out 15-point winners over Belcoo.

The Borus led by six at the break but with Belcoo's attack faltering and only mustering one point in the second half, Kinawley made them pay with some fine scores.

Belcoo started brightly and hit the first score of the game as Conor McAloon converted a free for a foul on Dan O’Connor.

But from there on it was to be Boru dominance and it started with a Sean McManus free and it was followed by a fine score from Paul Breen.

Belcoo had a chance for a quick response as they broke forward but Ciarán Flaherty’s goal chance foiled by Sean Doherty in the Kinawley.

A turnover from a Belcoo attack gave Kinawley an attacking platform and Ruairi Corrigan was able to cut in along the endline and square to Donal Owens who fired to the net, 1-02 to 0-01 after 12 minutes.

Corrigan would push the lead out even further with a score followed by another McManus free as the Borus pushed high on Belcoo’s kickouts.

Gary Doherty converted a 45 for a badly needed Belcoo score and it was 1-04 to 0-03 when Flaherty added a mark.

But that was to be Belcoo’s final score of the half with Kinawley hitting further points through Caolan Brennan and McManus to leave it 1-06 to 0-03 at the break.

It was to get no better for Belcoo in the second half as Kinawley continued to dominate and held the O’Rahilly’s to a single score.

McManus got the Borus going with a simple free before Eoin Shiels hit the only Belcoo score of the half.

Another McManus free was followed by Kinawley pouncing on a poor kickout and Ciaran Breen capitalised.

A last ditch block denied Danny McGovern a goal but the resultant 45 was clipped over by Paul Breen.

Some patient buildup then allowed Ciaran Breen to run onto a pass and fire over to make it 1-11 to 0-04.

A good move saw McManus add another point before Paul Breen converted a free that was brought into scoring range for dissent.

And to round off a fine display by Kinawley they worked the ball the whole way down the pitch and Paul Breen was able to square it to Tom Keenan for a simple palmed goal as the game ended 2-13 to 0-04.

Speaking after the game, Kinawley selector, Barry Maguire said: “Pleased with the performance and good to pick up another two points at home and to build on last week’s win in Ederney.

“[There’s] lots of games coming up now this month starting with a tough trip to Garrison against Devenish on Sunday.”

While Kinawley travel to the shores of Lough Melvin, Belcoo will be hoping they can improve on their display against Enniskillen Gaels.
