Boys basketball: Bulldogs post wins over ND and Hauser

Jan. 29—BATESVILLE — The Bulldogs opened a double weekend at home against North Decatur Friday. Batesville jumped out to an early lead and road the momentum to a 67-46 victory over the Chargers.

Batesville took a 21-6 lead after the first quarter and held that 15-point margin at the half, 32-17.

A 19-12 third quarter for Batesville put the game out of reach.

Batesville's Cade Kaiser scored a game-high 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field and 5-of-7 from the free throw line. He also pulled down six rebounds and dished out four steals.

Sam Johnson was second on the team in scoring with 13 points. Jack Grunkemeyer and James Hughes added nine and eight points, respectively.

Leading the Chargers in scoring was Kaden Muckerheide with 14 points to go with nine rebounds and six assists.

Owen Eldridge also scored in double figures with 12 points, one rebound and assist.

Mason Morris was the third Charger in double figures with 10 points and five rebounds. Logan O'Dell scored seven points. Chase Youngman added three points and one rebound.

Batesville traveled to Hauser Saturday and grounded the 12-4 Jets 54-50. Batesville moved to 11-4.

A packed gym say a solid Jets squad lead for much of the contest. Batesville trailed 17-15 after one quarter and 29-21 at the half.

After three quarters, Hauser led 43-35. The Bulldogs went on a 19-3 run over the final 6:14 to rally for the 54-50 win.

Both teams shot 48 percent from the field. Batesville shot 32 percent from 3-point range and the Jets shot just 18 percent from long distance. The Bulldogs were solid at the free throw line, connecting on 14-of-15 for the game.

Kaiser led the Bulldogs in scoring with 22 points. Grunkemeyer was also in double figures with 15 points. Johnson finished with six points followed by Brayden Maple five, Trenten Luers three and Gus Prickel three.

Grunkemeyer had a team-high six rebounds. Johnson added team-highs with four assists and four steals.

Hauser was led in scoring by Stryker Gill with 13 points and Taeshaun Tungate and Kameron Blair, both with 12 points.

North Decatur at Tri

The Chargers looked to bounce back from Friday's loss at Batesville with a trip to Tri Saturday. A 19-13 third quarter by the Titans was the difference in the game as Tri held off the Chargers 67-61.

North held a slim 12-11 lead after the first quarter. The Titans outscored North 17-14 in the second quarter to lead 28-26 at the half. The run in the third quarter by Tri gave the Titans a 47-39 lead heading to the fourth quarter.

Leading the Chargers in scoring was Muckerheide with 22 points, three rebounds and five assists.

Brady Mauer finished with 15 points, five rebounds and one assist. Eldridge tallied 10 points, seven rebounds and one assist. Chase Youngman had six points. Cooper Parmer chipped in with give points, four rebounds and one assist. Logan O'Dell added three points and two rebounds.

The Chargers host Waldron Thursday.

Greensburg

GREENSBURG — In Friday's EIAC match-up with Lawrenceburg, the Pirates found themselves down heading to the fourth quarter. Greensburg has been in this situation a couple times already this year and turned things around for the win.

The Pirates outscored Lawrenceburg 18-7 in the fourth quarter to tie the game and send it to overtime on a lay-up by Jack McKinsey. In the first extra session, both teams scored four points, including Reece Beavers' two game-knotting free throws to force a second overtime. In the second OT, Greensburg doubled up the Tigers 8-4 to secure the 46-42 victory.

Greensburg improves to 11-6 overall and 4-1 in the EIAC. Lawrenceburg drops to 13-6 and 2-2 in the EIAC.

The Pirates had two players score in double figures: Drew Busick with 14 and Bradley Lutz with 12. Jack McKinsey added eight points. Addison Barnes-Pettit had six points. Justin Adkins added four points and Reece Beaver had two points.

McKinsey grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Lutz and Busick both had five rebounds. Busick dished out a team-high three assists.

Lawrenceburg was led in scoring by Cooper Bobo and Charlie Meyer, both with 11 points.

Greensburg returns to the hardwood at Rushville Thursday.

Rushville

The Lions hosted EIAC foe South Dearborn Friday. A big fourth quarter by the Knights lifted South Dearborn to a 43-30 victory.

Rushville drops to 3-13 overall and 0-5 in the EIAC. South Dearborn improves to 9-7 and 3-2 in the EIAC.

The Knights jumped out to a 13-4 lead after the first eight minutes. Quentin Cain and Adrian Apodaca both had a bucket for the Lions. Brodie Teke scored five and Hudson Shackelford had four for the Knights.

Rushville bounced back to outscore the Knights 9-5 in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to 18-13 at the half. Keegan Bowles and Cain both had 3-pointers in the quarter for the Lions. Shackelford had four points for South Dearborn.

In the third, Rushville cut the deficit to 24-22. Bowles had five points to lead the Lions in the frame.

The fourth quarter belonged to South Dearborn's Peyton Hill. The 5-8 senior connected on three 3-pointers en route to 15 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Knights to the victory.

Bowles led the Lions in scoring with 13 points. Cain finished with seven followed by Apodaca five, Nick Jarman four and Chase Woolf one.

Bowles also had team-highs with seven rebounds, two assists and three steals.

Hill led all scorers with 19 points. Shackelford was also in double figures with 10 points.

South Decatur

The Cougars dropped to 8-8 on the season and 3-2 in the MHC with a 77-51 loss at Hauser Friday. Hauser is 12-4 overall and 4-0 in the MHC.

Hauser lead 14-12 after the first eight minutes. The Jets soared in the second quarter to outscored the Cougars 23-6 in the frame and lead 37-18 at the break. South won the third quarter 21-19, but a 21-12 run by Hauser in the fourth quarter sealed the victory.

The Cougars were led by Jacob Scruggs with a game-high 25 points. Jamison Keller added 10 points. Jaylynn McMurray finished with eight points. Colby Rathburn scored five points. Drake Scaggs finished with three points.

For the Jets, Gavin Keller, Ledger Gelfius and Taeshaun Tungate each scored 15 points. Stryker Gill tallied 13 points, 11 assists and three steals. The fifth Jet in double figures scoring was Kam Blair with 12 points.

South travels to Rising Sun (5-11) Saturday.
