Boys basketball roundup: Sigourney falls to Danville

Feb. 15—SIGOURNEY — Carson Ourth led the Bears to a Class 1A, District 9 win over Sigourney, narrowly missing out on a perfect shooting night hitting 11 of 12 field goal attempts as part of a 24-point, 12-rebound double-double effort to hold off the Savages 62-52

Jaden Bauer added 16 points and eight rebounds for Danville. Titus Svoboda scored 15 points while dishing out a team-leading seven assists and collecting a team-leading four steals.

Sigourney finishes a winning season at 13-9. The Savages will return every member of the team next season.

"Danville is a really talented team," Sigourney head coach Mitch Eslick said. "We have a phenomenal group of young men who made big strides from November to now. With no seniors on this team, I'm anxious to what's next for this group."

Mid-Prairie 68, Cardinal 53

WELLMAN — Bryce Henry led a balanced attack by the Golden Hawks in a Class 2A, District 9 quarterfinals scoring 21 points as the Hawks held off a stellar shooting performance from Alec Rachford and the Comets.

Rachford, playing his final game for the Cardinal boys basketball team, sank five of the team's 11 made 3-pointers finishing with a team-leading 17 points. Mason Grove added 12 points, hitting 4-9 shots from 3-point range, while Gave Ware added 10 points and a team-leading four blocks for the Comets.

Brady Weber narrowly missed out on a triple-double for Mid-Prairie, scoring 18 points while dishing out nine assists and pulling in nine rebounds. Ace Peck added 16 points and seven of Mid-Prairie's 15 steals.

Cardinal finishes the season with a record of 1-22.

Mediapolis 75, Van Buren County 38

MEDIAPOLIS — Will Cocherell closed out his first season for the Warriors scoring a team-leading 16 points in a Class 2A, District 7 loss to the Bulldogs.

Izaak Loeffler added 15 points for Van Buren County. Mediapolis pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Warriors 52-22 over the final 16 minutes.

Van Buren County closes out the season with a final record of 5-17.

North Mahaska 93, Moulton-Udell 23

NEW SHARON — Gabe Hora led the Warhawks with 20 points while Nate Sampson added a double-double with 11 points and 13 assists in a Class 1A, District 10 quarterfinal win over the Eagles.

Adrian Smith added a double-double off the bench for North Mahaska, scoring 12 points while grabbing a team-leading 11 rebounds. Nolan Anderson narrowly missed out on a double-double, scoring 18 points while hauling in nine rebounds for the Warhawks.

Moulton-Udell finishes the season with a record of 8-10. The Eagles produced their winningest season since 2018 after entering the season having lost 78 consecutive games.

WACO 57, Pekin 42

WAYLAND — Isaac Rich's late 3-pointer helped the Warriors close out a Class 1A, District 9 quarterfinal win over Pekin with a final 11-0 run after the Panthers had cut WACO's lead to 40-36.

Colton Leichty led WACO with 26 points in the win while Chase Waterhouse added 16 points, hitting all seven shots from the field. JaeDon Wolver led the Panthers with 13 points while Sven Dahlstrom scored 12 points on four made 3-pointers.

Pekin ends the season with a record of 10-11.
