Boy's Basketball: Wells to battle Fayetteville in Regional semi-final Friday

Feb. 29—WELLS — The Wells High School boy's basketball team will be in Austin Friday night to face off against Fayetteville in a Class 1A, Region IV semi-final.

Tip-off at the Burger Center is slated for 8 p.m.

A Pirate victory Friday would advance Wells to the regional final game, which is slated to get way at noon Saturday.

Brookeland and Rock Springs meet in the region's other semi-final contest.

Although Wells (22-12) has won its last 12-consecutive games, head coach Chad Collins' Pirates are unranked.

Fayetteville (30-5) is ranked No. 12 in the most recent Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Class A poll.

The Pirates have already defeated one ranked team, No. 25 Penelope, in post season play.

As a result of its 63-50 victory over Oglesby in the regional quarterfinal round Tuesday night, Wells punched its ticket to the regional tournament.

Fayetteville claimed a 45-41 win over Moulton in its regional quarterfinal fray.
