Brentford 0-3 Arsenal LIVE! Vieira goal - Premier League result, match stream and latest updates today

Brentford vs Arsenal LIVE!

Arsenal climbed back to the top of the Premier League and avenged last year's humbling at Brentford with a clinical 3-0 victory. The Gunners were back at the scene of their dismal opening-day defeat last season which pre-empted their worst start to a campaign for 67 years.

But they are a different animal this term and proved it with an organised, inventive display and three well-taken goals from William Saliba, Gabriel Jesus and Fabio Vieira.

Such was Arsenal's dominance that Mikel Arteta could even afford to give 15-year-old midfielder Ethan Nwaneri a late run-out as a substitute, making him the Premier League's youngest player.

A moment of history to cap the win

13:57 , Marc Mayo

Full time!

13:54 , Marc Mayo

A fine trip across the capital for the Gunners, who will return home top of the table!

13:50 , Marc Mayo

90+1 mins: Marquinhos and Nwaneri are given the final minutes off the bench.

The 15-year-old was born in 2007, before the Emirates Stadium was finished, and is both Arsenal and the Premier League’s youngest-ever player.

Vieira and Saka come off.

13:49 , Marc Mayo

90 mins: Jesus is booked as four minutes are added on.

13:46 , Marc Mayo

86 mins: Tomiyasu replaces White as Arsenal have another go at 4-0, Raya palming away Jesus’ near-post attempt.

“Ivan Toney, a stroll in the park,” sing the away end. It has been a bit of a kickabout for the Gunners today...

13:42 , Marc Mayo

84 mins: Ramsdale feels a bit of an issue which winds up a few of a Brentford persuasion, he can carry on though as England duty beckons.

13:39 , Marc Mayo

80 mins: Pena-No!

The offside flag goes up just as David Coote points to the spot for Toney taking a tumble in the box.

13:37 , Marc Mayo

78 mins: It has been a really fine day for the Arsenal midfield with their pressing game unrelenting despite the game being done.

Martinelli and Partey, who is just back from injury, are saved for the final minutes as Nketiah and Lokonga come on.

13:35 , Marc Mayo

76 mins: A final change for the Bees, with Arteta still yet to make one, as Wissa replaces Mbeumo up top.

13:33 , Marc Mayo

73 mins: It would be a surprise to see Arteta give a runout to Smith, Sousa or even 15-year-old Nwaneri until the dying moments.

A clean sheet and goal difference could prove vital in a few months’ time and Brentford are very much pushing for a consolation.

13:30 , Marc Mayo

70 mins: A minute’s applause around the ground for Queen Elizabeth II, as Brentford build an attack that is well worked into Damsgaard.

Ramsdale comes out to smother the shot.

13:28 , Marc Mayo

68 mins: That will be that for Jensen, Baptiste will replace the Dane after what looks like a knock to his knee.

He can walk off, at least, suggesting this is more of a precaution.

13:26 , Marc Mayo

66 mins: Raya has to produce a smart save to prevent a fourth as Saka pops up with an effort to cap his pair of assists.

Jensen is down off the ball and play is stopped.

13:22 , Marc Mayo

63 mins: Frank goes to his bench for some energy with Onyeka and Damsgaard replacing Dasilva and Janelt in midfield.

13:21 , Marc Mayo

So that’s why they do the wall trick...

13:17 , Marc Mayo

57 mins: Save!

Samba football now from the Gunners as Jesus combines with Xhaka to break in behind and Raya has to react sharply to divert his shot with his feet.

Raya claims the corner and plays it out quickly and Xhaka makes too much of a nuisance of himself for the keeper, earning a booking for his troubles.

The difference to this Arsenal team when Partey plays is so clear. He brings such a calmness to that midfield.

13:14 , Marc Mayo

55 mins: Four shots on target, three goals from Arsenal so far.

Efficient, ruthless and disciplined? Arsenal? Surely not...

13:12 , Marc Mayo

52 mins: Good spot from David Coote as he pulls up Martinelli for a dragback just outside the box from a free-kick.

A new set piece from 20 yards out is lined up and Toney volleys over.

What a way to announce yourself to the Premier League. Arsenal are in dreamland. "We are top of the League," sing the away fans.

GOAL! Brentford 0-3 Arsenal | Vieira

13:08 , Marc Mayo

48 mins: What a hit!

On his Premier League full debut, the midfielder lines up a shot from range and smacks it in via the post!

13:07 , Marc Mayo

47 mins: Arsenal settle into the second half with a comfortable spell on the ball.

Kick off!

13:04 , Marc Mayo

Brentford need a mega performance to deprive Arsenal of top spot.

Second half, coming up...

How Arsenal took the lead

12:57 , Marc Mayo

Simon Collings at Gtech Community Stadium

12:52 , Marc Mayo

That was an excellent half from Arsenal. This is a really tough place to come but Arsenal have dealt with it really well. Arteta must be delighted.

Half time!

12:48 , Marc Mayo

Well, that must have been a pretty satisfying 45 minutes of football for Gunners fans.

Arsenal are on course to return to the top of the Premier League after goals from Saliba and Jesus.

12:47 , Marc Mayo

45 mins: Two minutes added on as Mbeumo flashes a header wide.

12:45 , Marc Mayo

43 mins: Tierney the next to pick out a long-range effort which soars a couple of feet over the bar.

A third would really kill this contest.

12:43 , Marc Mayo

41 mins: Saka wriggles into an inch of space cutting inside and hits a shot straight at a defender, but the home team cannot break out and their clearance comes straight back at them.

Arsenal looking good for their lead as the break approaches.

12:39 , Marc Mayo

37 mins: Something of a reaction from Brentford, at last, and Jesus is caught in possession near his own corner flag.

Jensen hits the byline and crosses too deep, the ball going out of play.

12:37 , Marc Mayo

35 mins: Xhaka tries to turn a good first half into a stunning one with a long-range effort on his weaker foot. ‘Weak’ is a good way to describe the shot in general, as it flies high over the bar.

12:33 , Marc Mayo

31 mins: A big, big test for Brentford now as they have barely laid a glove on Arsenal and find themselves two down having lost two markers from good balls into the box.

Simple but effective, you could say, from the visitors.

12:31 , Marc Mayo

That was a brilliant goal by Arsenal. Fitting too that it was a Xhaka assist, he’s been excellent today - and all season for that matter.

GOAL! Brentford 0-2 Arsenal | Gabriel Jesus

12:29 , Marc Mayo

28 mins: There it is! Jesus fires home a header from Xhaka’s floated ball in!

12:27 , Marc Mayo

26 mins: It’s all a little flat from the home support with Toney and Mbeumo not really in the game.

Can Arsenal take advantage to grab a second?

12:24 , Marc Mayo

22 mins: Gabriel felt a similar issue, just below his right knee, in the warm-up but will continue for now.

Tomiyasu is warming up as play resumes.

12:23 , Marc Mayo

20 mins: It has been a fairly low-key lunchtime match in west London but first blood goes to the Gunners with the help of goalline technology.

Lots of time left in this one and Brentford won’t panic. A delay first as Gabriel is down injured.

The away fans didn’t need an excuse to start singing Saliba’s name and this could go on a while now.

GOAL! Brentford 0-1 Arsenal | Saliba

12:18 , Marc Mayo

16 mins: A flicked header from Saliba at Saka’s corner narrowly crosses the line!

12:16 , Marc Mayo

13 mins: Stick another one on the tally of fine Mee sliding tackles as this time he cleans out Martinelli, and gets the ball, in front of an ovation of Brentford fans.

Surely one of the better free transfers of the summer.

Simon Collings at Gtech Community Stadium

12:13 , Marc Mayo

It looks like Tierney is playing his more natural left-back role today, staying wide and hugging the touchline, as opposed to replicating what Zinchenko does by tucking into midfield.

12:12 , Marc Mayo

10 mins: Vieira picks out a nice forward ball to Jesus as he rushes towards the defence and in comes Mee with a lovely sliding tackle to quash the danger.

12:07 , Marc Mayo

6 mins: Good from the Bees as the ball again goes left and the cross comes in quickly, Mbeumo connecting weakly to allow Ramsdale an easy gather.

12:05 , Marc Mayo

4 mins: Not a great start for Vieira on his first Premier League start, underpowering a chest-down to a teammate before giving away a free-kick.

Brentford work a short one wide and Henry’s fine cross is claimed by Ramsdale.

12:04 , Marc Mayo

2 mins: Just 63 seconds on the clock before Arsenal fans break out into a ‘Saliba’ chant...

And the Gunners hold the ball early on before Martinelli is found with lots of space on the penalty spot - but he loses his footing as he shoots and Raya claims. Warning shot.

Thomas Frank previews the game

11:49 , Marc Mayo

“We try to make this a fortress, we are looking forward to it. They are top of the league before this round, they are the team in form just behind Man City - they have been fantastic. They are completely different [to last year’s meeting]. But, if we are brave and aggressive, we have a chance.”

Arteta on Odegaard and Zinchenko injuries

11:45 , Marc Mayo

“They are injured and not available for the game. They have two different things but we don’t know [the timescale] yet. We have the opportunity to bring in young players, we are pretty short but opportunities come when these issues arise.”

Infectious Saliba chant reaches Arsenal dressing room

11:42 , Marc Mayo

William Saliba has revealed his delight at the Arsenal fan chant that has become an instant classic at the club.

The earworm chant, to the tune of ‘Tequila’ by The Champs, has greeted the French defender’s long-awaited emergence inside the Gunners team and has even made its way into the dressing room.

“It makes me happy when the fans chant my name like that,” Saliba told Canal Plus.

“Since the Bournemouth game, they’ve been singing it every match, and it gives me a lot of strength, and make me want to give something back by playing well and working hard.”

Nwaneri a highly-rated talent

11:38 , Marc Mayo

Not much is known of the 15-year-old Ethan Nwaneri outside of London Colney but the Arsenal substitute was on the high end of some high praise from Slough Town boss Neil Baker in the summer

“I understand their number 10 has got great feet, he’s only a real youngster,” said Baker.

“I think he’s a real high hope for them at Arsenal. He’s got absolutely unbelievable ability.”

Arteta happy for another Toney tweet to fuel Arsenal

11:32 , Marc Mayo

Mikel Arteta has joked that he would be happy for Ivan Toney to post another tweet teasing Arsenal after the Brentford striker sparked his motivational speech shown on All or Nothing.

The Amazon docuseries captured the Gunners boss showing his squad a social media comment made by Toney after the Bees downed Arsenal on the opening day of last season.

The Brentford star cheekily described the west London win as a “nice kick about with the boys”, which wound Arteta up no end and resulted in his lengthy rant before the return fixture at Emirates Stadium.

“I haven’t written the script for the pre-match message on Sunday, so if he has any messages and wants to post before then, I could always write them down,” Arteta joked at his pre-match press conference.

Kristoffer Ajer makes the line-up too as Keane Lewis-Potter drops out through injury, Thomas Frank reverting to a 5-3-2 formation for the visit of the Gunners.

Youngsters get their chance

11:14 , Marc Mayo

Mikel Arteta has picked Lino Sousa and Ethan Nwaneri for his subs bench today.

Left-back Sousa, 17, is a veritable veteran compared to his 15-year-old teammate Nwaneri as he comes in amid Oleksandr Zinchenko and Cedric Soares’ absence.

Nwaneri, an attacking midfielder, will become Arsenal’s youngest-ever player if he comes off the bench - he was born in 2007, after the Emirates Stadium was built.

I. Feel. Old.

10:54 , Marc Mayo

Ex-Arsenal academy midfielder Josh Dasilva has spoken of his pride at seeing old teammates Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith Rowe thrive at the club he left as a youngster.

The Brentford midfielder told The Times: “Knowing guys that I’ve played with from a young age, like Eddie and Emile, and the way they’ve come up, I know how hard it is to be where they are.

“So sharing that pitch with them and playing in probably the best league in the world is second to none.”
