Larner has already been hailed a hero, with a petition launched for him to be awarded the George Cross medal for his actions in the Black and Blue steakhouse.

Pub landlord Sean Donnelly says he’s heard Larner is delighted by the news.

“What went on years ago, went on years ago,” he said. “Basically, it’s just football fans uniting over a common enemy.”

It is hoped Larner will be able to receive the plaque when newly-promoted Millwall visit Ashton Gate next season.
