Burgess, Brewton win twice at quad meet

Mar. 23—TIFTON — Tift County hosted its second quad meet of 2024 Wednesday, March 20, bringing in three not as local schools for competition.

Appling County, Macon County and Pelham were the opponents for the day, arriving from the east, west and north.

Osario Brewton won both the 110 and 300 hurdles, in 19.44 seconds and 45.52, respectively. Tyrique Wallace was second in the latter.

Winning for Tift was Jonathan Mercedes in the 100 in 11.6 seconds. Caitlyn Burgess burned all competitors in the 100 with a time of 12.88 seconds, more than a half-second ahead of everyone else.

Blair Golden blazed to victory in the 1,600 in 4:58. Ahmadre Woods cleared 6-4 to win high jump. Trendon Miller cleared an amazing 41-10.5 in triple jump for first place.

Johanna Martinez-Camacho was first to teammate Kaylee Vanwagoner in the 800, Martinez-Camacho running in 3:17. It was also a 1-2 finish for Jaxson Hughes and Andres Soto were 1in the 800 meters. Hughes' time was 2:19. Ava Wilson and Keira Gibbs were first and second in the 1,600.

Kaleb Lewis threw 112-10.5 to win discus. High jump saw Burgess clear 4-10 to win and Makayla Bryant in second place. Diamond Wallace won the long jump in 17-5, a foot further than the closest competitor.

Bailee Williams' 101-3 easily won discus.

In relays, the boys 4x100 won in 44.08, the 4x400 in 4:16 and the 4x800 in 9:09. The girls took the 4x100 in 49.41 seconds, the 4x400 in 4:34 and the 4x800 in 11:48.

Girls 100: Zanyia Knight (4th).

Boys 200: Shurrod Rich (5th).

Girls 200: Ja'Mayah Romer (4th).

Boys 400: Myron McTear (4th).

Girls 400: Myanna Walton (3rd) and Romer (4th).

Boys 800: Anthony Pace (4th) and Joshua Matthews (5th).

Boys 1,600: Hatcher Swanson (4th) and Alex Birdsong (5th).

Girls 100 hurdles: Aziyah Lockett (2nd) and Skye Perry (3rd).

Girls 300 hurdles: Mackenzie Holliday (2nd) and Mariyah Batts (5th).

Boys 4x200: 2nd.

Girls 4x200: 2nd.

Boys high jump: Jamari Johnson (3rd) and McKyler Horne (4th).

Boys long jump: Woods (2nd) and Taylan Morrow (5th).

Girls long jump: Dinae Robinson (3rd) and Walton (4th).

Boys triple jump: Latravean Lockett (4th) and Brewton (5th).

Boys discus: Avery Clark (4th).

Girls discus: Debraysia Doward (3rd).

Boys shot put: Ziareon Alford (5th).
