With the season just past the halfway stage, its a good time to dish out some awards to the Burnley players who have been performing so well this season.

Player of the Season: Jack Cork

Cork has been the model of consistency since joining this summer from Swansea. Although he had an 18 month spell here under Brian Laws, there was no reason to believe he would take to the new system and squad so quickly but he has quickly become our most important player in the middle of the park. He has been superb in winning the ball as well as retaining possession and he is still picking out some clever balls forward. His goal against Swansea was the icing on the cake.

Honourable Mention: Johann Berg Gudmundsson

Goal of the Season: Jeff Hendrick v Everton

We haven’t scored too many great goals this season, although they are all great when they are for Burnley. This was a tough one but I think the extended spell we held the ball for as we picked the right moment to strike. Burnley completed 24 consecutive passes in the build up to Hendrick’s goal, which was in itself a great piece of skill. Hendrick allowed the ball to come across his body before firing into the bottom corner.

Honourable Mention: Steven Defour v Man United

Surprise Package: Nick Pope

Pope has been absolutely unbelievable since he was drafted into the team. In the summer we lost Gray and Keane, but i was relieved we held on to Heaton. Right now though Pope is giving Dyche a lot to think about next season, when Heaton is back fit. Pope leads many of the goalkeeping charts across all of Europe. He has some top drawer saves in his scrapbook already this season and is knocking on the door for an England call up.

Honourable Mention: Ashley Barnes

Best Team Performance: Chelsea (Away)

The opening game of the season was probably the shortest odds Chelsea will get all season. Not one person would have backed Burnley to get a point and frankly a narrow defeat might have given the travelling Clarets a bit of pride. That was not to be as we raced to a 3-0 lead and hung on in the second half to win 3-2. That was the first of many great performances but perhaps the most inspiring.

Honourable Mention: Swansea (Home)
