TALENTED hurdler Lewis Shaw had a busy but successful weekend, with two personal-best performances in as many days.

The Warrington Athletics Club youngster competed in the University of Birmingham Open meeting, where he lowered his best 110m hurdles time over under 18 height hurdles to 14.47secs to win the race.

That time is the sixth-best in Europe for his age group this season and would qualify him for the upcoming European Championships, but British Athletics require a faster time to be considered for selection.

Rebecca Hardy finished her 100m hurdles race at the same meeting in second place in a time of 15.35secs.

The following day, Shaw won again at the latest Youth Development League meeting while competing for second-claim club Trafford AC.

He was victorious in the under 17s 100m hurdles in a new best time of 13.38secs to consolidate his position at the top of the UK rankings.

Lisa Halliday was also competing second-claim for Trafford at the same meeting, winning the B 100m hurdles in 16.92secs and finishing second in the A 400m hurdles in 67.88secs.

Meanwhile, there was a strong Warrington turnout at Friday’s Mid-Cheshire 5km race in Kingsley.

Their results were as follows…

Cameron Field (22nd overall, 14mins 54secs PB), Dan Fox (48th, 15mins 18secs PB), Jack Marwood (66th, 15mins 29secs, 12th under 21), Jack Pilkington (172nd, 16mins 13secs PB), Steve Watmough (330th, 17mins 44secs, 1st over 60), Claire Andrew (443rd, 18mins 44secs, 59th women’s, 3rd women’s over 45), Claire Demaine Farrell (537th, 20mins 1sec, 90th women’s, 9th women’s over 45), Jess Connolly (540th, 20mins 1sec, 91st women’s, 27th women’s under 21), Dave Watson (543rd, 19mins 58secs), Georgina Walker (591st, 21mins 2secs, 106th women’s, 11th women’s over 45), Joanna Robbins (636th, 22mins 23secs, 130th women’s, 10th women’s over 50)
