Byng Invitational tennis titles go to the host teams

Mar. 6—The Byng High School tennis teams kicked off their spring seasons by winning their own tournament last weekend at the Ada Tennis Center.

The Lady Pirates captured the championship of the Byng Invitational by piling up 32 team points. Piedmont was runner-up with 26 points and Pauls Valley finished third at 22.

The Byng boys were tournament champs after finishing atop the team standings with 32 points. Rejoice Christian was next with 24 points, Seminole was right behind with 23 points and Piedmont finished fourth at 21.

GIRLS

All four Byng entries advanced to championship matches.

The BHS No. 1 Doubles squad of Audrey Boatright and Jayci Cole defeated Ava Devane and Addison Harris of Piedmont 6-1, 6-3 in the finals.

Emily Holloway and Harmoni Moore of Byng captured the No. 2 Doubles title with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Taelyn Crowder and Marley Rennie of Pauls Valley in the championship match.

In No. 1 Singles, Sophie Shepherd of Piedmont got the best of Byng's Yocelin Hernandez 6-1, 6-0 in the title matchup.

And Haven Leslie of Byng settled for second in No. 2 Singles after absorbing a 6-4, 6-1 loss to Reagan Cherry of Rejoice Christian in the finals.

BOYS

Byng won three divisions en route to the boy's team title.

Jackson Goodman won the No. 1 Singles draw with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Jacob Medina of Pauls Valley in the championship match.

The No. 1 Doubles team of Tuker Dennis and Ty Mills knocked off Lungstrum and Trammell of McAlester 6-1, 6-1 to win that division.

The Byng combo of Hunter Murray and Devon Smith defeated Hisey and Johnson of Piedmont 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 2 Doubles title match.

In No. 2 Singles, Nathan Ailer of Piedmont eased past Hayden Ware of Byng 6-4, 6-1 in the third-place matchup.
