Byng softball team dumps Davis

Mar. 27—DAVIS — The Byng Lady Pirates got off to a fast start and buried host Davis 12-1 in a five-inning run-rule Tuesday evening.

Coach Markus Carr's club starts off at 2-0 on the year, while Davis dipped to 4-3.

Byng was scheduled to compete in the McLoud Festival on Tuesday before heading to Stonewall to battle in the 24-team Beast of the East Tournament which begins Thursday.

Byng erupted for seven runs in their first at-bats. That volley included an RBI double by Alona Cooper-Rochovitz, seven singles (including two from McKenzie Alford and Hannah Wort), a walk and an error.

Cooper launched a solo home run to lead off the top of the second inning and put the Lady Pirates ahead 8-0.

Piper Presley later delivered an RBI single in the inning and Aubrey Pope hit a sacrifice fly that boosted the BHS advantage to 10-0.

Davis scored its lone run in the bottom of the second inning.

In the top of the fourth inning, freshman Kinley Sellers provided a run-scoring hit to push the Byng lead to 11-1.

Wort doubled to lead off the top of the fifth inning for Byng and later scored the final BHS run of the contest on a ground ball to shortstop off the bat of Hailey Alexander. Word led an 18-hit Lady Pirate attack, going 4-for-5 with the double and two runs scored as her team's leadoff hitter.

Sellers ended up 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Cooper finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a walk and two runs scored. Alford and Presley also had two hits apiece for the Byng team. Presley drove in three runs.
