Cadiz 4-2 Man United LIVE! Friendly result, match stream, latest reaction and updates today

Cadiz vs Manchester United - LIVE!

Erik ten Hag and his Manchester United squad tonight step up their preparations for the second half of the season with a friendly against Spanish side Cadiz. With all eyes having been on the World Cup for the past three weeks, the first days without tournament football brings us some club-side kickabouts.

United are on a training camp in Andalusia with a squad made up of first-team regulars not in Qatar and plenty of young talents, meaning there will be plenty of opportunities for some to stake their claim for competitive minutes when the domestic campaigns resume. Donny van de Beek is another likely with a final chance to prove his worth.

The likes of David de Gea, Anthony Martial and new shining star Alejandro Garnacho are all expected to be involved tonight. You can follow the game LIVE below with our dedicated match blog of the mid-season friendly from Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla in Andalusia.

Full-time!

20:54 , Alex Young

93min: That wasn’t too pretty!

20:49 , Alex Young

90min: Two minutes added on.

20:47 , Alex Young

87min: United ambling to defeat.

20:42 , Alex Young

83min: Fredericson almost goes into the book for a clumsy foul on Gimenez.

20:40 , Alex Young

80min: I do feel for Savage there, who stood no chance with a bobbly pitch, but United have been quite miserable.

GOAL!

20:36 , Alex Young

77min: Savage is sold short with a poor pass, Cadiz pounce and Alarcon runs through and scores.

A reminder that, before tonight, Cadiz had scored nine goals all season.

Four tonight.

20:33 , Alex Young

74min: Mainoo tries to win a penalty but he perhaps overcooks the fall a tad. Referee waves away the dive.

20:30 , Alex Young

70min: Garcia, who opened the scoring, has picked up a knock. He may continue, but surely better to give him a rest.

Shoretire is trying to make something work for United, but it’s very pedestrian.

20:24 , Alex Young

66min: Savage tries his luck from distance, but it’s not troubling the Cadiz keeper.

The hosts look so comfortable.

20:19 , Alex Young

61min: Lucas Perez, a flop at Arsenal and West Ham, is on for Cadiz.

GOAL!

20:17 , Alex Young

57min: They are back in front! Sobrino with a fine volleyed finish as United defenders stand around appealing for offside.

20:10 , Alex Young

50min: Shouts for a United penalty as Shoretire takes a tumble inside the area, but the referee isn’t interested.

GOAL!

20:07 , Alex Young

48min: Instant impact from Mainoo!

He cuts inside and his shot deflects off of a defender to wrong-foot the keeper.

Second half

20:03 , Alex Young

46min: Back underway!

20:02 , Alex Young

Ten Hag has changed almost the entire team.

Here’s the second-half XI: Dubravka, Jurado, Fredricson, Bernard, Murray, Savage, Mainoo, Hansen-Aaroen, Emeran, Shoretire, McNeill

19:59 , Alex Young

Sounds like changes aplenty for United.

19:55 , Alex Young

So, Cadiz lead at the break, and are good value for it. Martial halved the deficit from the penalty spot, but United have done little else.

Ten Hag said before kick-off that he hated friendlies. I can see why.

Half-time!

19:47 , Alex Young

46min: No. The referee plays zero seconds of added time.

19:47 , Alex Young

45min: Another chance before the break?

19:46 , Alex Young

42min: Another chance for Cadiz as a shot is flashed across Dubravka’s goal. The keeper had to scramble but was never truly a problem.

19:43 , Alex Young

40min: A few choice words being exchanged between the two coaches.

It’s a friendly, guys. Come on.

19:40 , Alex Young

37min: Goalscorer Lozano makes way for Gimenez.

19:39 , Alex Young

36min: Cadiz are fairly comfortable in possession for now. United looked like to kick on after that penalty, but their hosts have managed it well.

They are set to make a first change, in fact.

19:34 , Alex Young

32min: Negredo is a striker for a reason, and he’s just proved it with a comical defensive clearance to prevent a United attack - a big ol’ boot straight out for a corner.

United can’t make anything from the set-piece.

19:31 , Alex Young

29min: Before tonight, Cadiz had scored just nine times in the league this season.

They had two goals after 13 minutes against Manchester United.

19:27 , Alex Young

25min: Cadiz almost score a third as Alejo wriggles into space into the area for a snapshot at goal, which sails narrowly wide.

Should have scored.

GOAL!

19:23 , Alex Young

21min: Martial with a panenka. Not quite the same stakes as Hakimi's but always welcome.

PENALTY TO UNITED!

19:22 , Alex Young

20min: Great play from Iqbal to win it.

19:21 , Alex Young

19min: Garnacho and Martial are seeing plenty of the ball as United ping the ball across the midfield and look for an opening.

Van de Beek is busy.

19:18 , Alex Young

16min: Not the start United wanted - or expected. They are all over the place at the back, and Wan-Bissaka needs to, well, start trying.

GOAL!

19:15 , Alex Young

13min: Erm. What's going on here?

Lozano has plenty of space in the area to slot home.

19:14 , Alex Young

10min: United have woken up, which was needed, at least. Martial tries his luck from the edge of the area, but his shot fizzes wide.

GOAL!

19:10 , Alex Young

7min: Well! Garcia heads home the opener at the back post.

A great finish, but the defending was woeful.

19:05 , Alex Young

3min: Garnacho has started on the right tonight, which is a switch up from his usual spot on the left.

He’s just ducked into the area but his shot with blocked.

19:04 , Alex Young

2min: United straight on the front foot with Van de Beek down the right flank, but his cut back can’t find Elanga.

Kick-off!

19:03 , Alex Young

1min: We’re underway.

19:01 , Alex Young

Ten Hag has told his squad that he wants to win tonight, adding: “I don’t like friendlies”.

They better win then, I guess.

19:00 , Alex Young

Here come the teams.

Just spotted fans with half-and-half scarfs in the stands. Collectors’ item, perhaps, for this mid-season friendly.

18:56 , Alex Young

We are minutes away and Cadiz is currently treating those attending to quite a light show ahead of kick-off.

18:54 , Alex Young

Ten Hag says been speaking to MUTV about Dubravka ahead of the game.

He said: “He did very well against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup. We have to challenge all of the players, so today he plays and it’s a good opportunity for him to get minutes in the legs to show what he’s capable of.”

Cadiz XI

18:42 , Alex Young

Here's how Cadiz line up, featuring former Man City striker Alvaro Negredo.

18:35 , Alex Young

This is the first game Manchester United have played since Ronaldo's contract was terminated.

Ten Hag was asked recently about the situation, and told MUTV: "He's gone and it's the past. We are now looking forward and we're looking to the future."

That's that. In the past.

It will be interesting to see how Martial gets on tonight.

His pre-season form saw Ten Hag scrap plans of selling him, only for the forward to get injured on the eve of the season. A number of further fitness followed which has seen him miss 15 games, but he has racked up four goals and two assists in seven matches when fit.

A decent showing today will go a long way to getting him in perfect shape for the restart in two weeks.

18:05 , Alex Young

We should see plenty of changes tonight, this is a friendly after all. The likes of Shoretire, Savage, Hugill, McNeill, Jurado, Hardley and Bennett should all expect to get some minutes.

Where’s Sancho?

17:49 , Alex Young

The fall of Jadon Sancho has gone under the radar somewhat. His omission from England’s World Cup squad was not even a talking point, and now he can’t even be with his team-mates as they work on match fitness.

He is not with the squad in Spain as he continues his individual training programme, reportedly in the Netherlands under coaches recommended by Erik ten Hag.

Good for him.

17:38 , Alex Young

So, no room for David de Gea tonight but Martin Dubravka does get a run out.

Man United starting XI: Dubravka; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Mengi, Williams; McTominay, Iqbal, Van de Beek; Elanga, Martial, Garnacho.

Substitutes: Bishop, Heaton, Shoretire, Savage, Hugill, McNeill, Emeran, Bernard, Jurado, Hardley, Bennett, Hansen-Aaroen, Gore, Mainoo, Oyedele, Murray, Fredricson.

Starting XI

Here we go, then.

Cadiz vs Manchester United prediction

17:14 , Alex Young

It’s always difficult to predict the outcome of a friendly, with nothing truly on the line for Ten Hag’s troops other than rebuilding fitness and match sharpness. Cadiz have been performing poorly in La Liga so far this season, but United will surely feel the absences of most of their key players.

There may be a flash of brilliance from someone like Anthony Martial or the exciting Alejandro Garnacho to see United to a narrow victory.

Standard predicts: 1-0 to Man United

Man United team news: First-teamers involved

17:00 , Alex Young

Ten Hag could well field an incredibly youthful United starting XI, given the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire and others are away at the World Cup.

Ten Hag has taken a 29-man squad to Andalusia, with talented youngsters like Zidane Iqbal and Alejandro Garnacho likely to take centre stage. They could both start at Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla, with Teden Mengi set to start at centre-back given the participation of Maguire, Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane in the World Cup knockout stages.

Senior heads David de Gea, Victor Lindelof and Anthony Martial would all benefit from minutes on the pitch, as would the likes of Donny van de Beek and Anthony Elanga, who have found game time difficult to come by in the Premier League this season.
