Canadian golfer rocks Maple Leafs jersey, drains putt

Canadian golfer Mackenzie Hughes busted out his best Happy Gilmore impression at the Waste Management Phoenix Open on Friday.

He got things started on the par-3 16th by encouraging the crowd to make some noise. After putting his shot within a few feet of the hole, Hughes doubled down on his showmanship by raising the roof and putting his hand to his ear like a young Hulk Hogan.

And just when you thought things couldn’t get any more electric, the 26-year-old Dundas, Ont., native went full Happy Gilmore and put on an Auston Matthews jersey before draining his birdie putt.

It’s all in the hips:

The stunt drew large cheers from the Canadians in attendance, and seeing as how the event is being held in Matthews’ hometown of Scottsdale it played well with the local crowd, too.

The only thing that would have made this better is if he “rode the bull” after making the putt. He’s also wearing an alternate sweater that’s not used anymore (jersey foul?), but we’ll cut him some slack on that.

Although Hughes wound up missing the cut, he certainly made a name for himself and earned a new fan in the Maple Leafs’ star rookie.
