'Cannot make that decision' - Jurgen Klopp reveals Alisson talks in first interview after Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has avoided potentially upsetting any of his former Liverpool players by refusing to pick a potential winner for Euro 2024 and Copa America.

Various members of the Reds' first-team squad are still competing at international level as they look to secure silverware this summer before returning to Merseyside.

Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold remain with England at the Euros, the same also applying to Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch and Virgil van Dijk (Netherlands), Diogo Jota (Portugal) and Ibrahima Konate (France).

Alexis Mac Allister, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez have each guided their countries into the quarter-finals of Copa America, with Alisson Becker set to join them barring a highly unlikely scenario which could see Costa Rica overtake Brazil in second place in Group D.

Asked to provide his thoughts on who could end up winning both competitions, Klopp was noncommittal when sharing his view on the Euros. "In the moment, it looks a little bit like Spain could do it. Germany is good, France will be good, England will be better definitely," said the German.

Adopting a similar stance with his Copa America prediction, the 57-year-old added: "Argentina or Brazil; or Colombia or Uruguay. I texted yesterday with Alisson, I cannot make that decision."

Klopp was in attendance at day seven of the Mallorca Championships tennis tournament when offering his opinion on this summer's football. The former Liverpool boss has been spending his time on the Balearic island since stepping down from his role at Anfield this summer, having purchased a luxury villa in the area.

Commenting on what he has enjoyed most about Mallorca to date, he replied: "Where can I start? I pretty much like everything about it, to be honest. But I am not long enough here yet. We tried to figure out what we like most."
