Celtic 0-3 Real Madrid LIVE! Champions League result, match stream, latest reaction and updates today

Celtic vs Real Madrid – LIVE!

Eden Hazard netted just his second Champions League goal as Real Madrid hit their stride in the second-half to beat Celtic 3-0 in Glasgow.

The hosts threatened a major upset as they gave the current holders a real scare in the first-half, though went into the break with nothing to show for it. Liel Abada was unable to take a couple of presentable opportunities, while Callum McGregor saw his effort cannon back off the woodwork.

That proved to be costly, as Real found their ruthless edge. Vinicius Junior and Luka Modric struck in quick succession, the Croatian flicking a lovely finish past Joe Hart with the outside of his foot. The result was put beyond any doubt when Toni Kroos quickly upped the ante, producing a lovely pass over the top for Dani Carvajal. He squared it on the volley into the path of Hazard, who could not miss from inside the six-yard box.

Elsewhere in the group...

21:56 , Matt Verri

Shakhtar Donetsk have beaten RB Leipzig 4-1 away from home. That’s a sensational result.

Celtic face Shakhtar next, in a match that will take place in Poland.

FT: Celtic 0-3 Real Madrid

21:50 , Matt Verri

That’ll do it at Celtic Park.

Plenty to like about that performance from the Scottish side, but Real showed their ruthless edge after the break.

Vinicius, Modric and Hazard with the goals, in what turned out to be a comfortable win.

21:48 , Matt Verri

90 mins: Nearly a fourth! Rodrygo drives forward, has team-mates up with him but never looks like passing.

Cuts onto his right foot, curls an effort towards the far corner but it’s just wide. Not by much.

Two minutes added on.

21:46 , Matt Verri

88 mins: Another lovely move from the visitors.

Carvajal cuts it back to Hazard, he lays it off to Asensio, via a dummy from Valverde. Comfortable enough save for Hart.

21:44 , Matt Verri

85 mins: Can Celtic find the consolation goal their performance deserves? Looking unlikely.

Well it almost came! Haksabanovic just skipped past Carvajal, hammered an effort at goal and Courtois has the strongest of hands to keep that out.

Lucky his hand didn’t end up in the back of the net.

21:40 , Matt Verri

82 mins: Taylor finds Jota, he can run at Carvajal on the left.

Drives into the box, onto his right foot and curls an effort high and wide. Idea was the right one.

That’s his final touch too - Haksabanovic on to replace him.

21:37 , Matt Verri

79 mins: Couple of half-chances for Celtic, who continue to try and get themselves on the scoresheet.

Fallen away after the break, but in the first-half Celtic were right in this match. Potentially even the better side.

GOAL! Celtic 0-3 Real Madrid | Eden Hazard 77'

21:35 , Matt Verri

Vinicius has shifted over to the right, he drifts past three challenges before flicking it wide to Carvajal. Celtic struggling to get a touch now.

Kroos whips it in to Carvajal, he knocks it down into the six yard box and Hazard has the simplest of finishes.

Absolutely stunning goal!

21:33 , Matt Verri

74 mins: Not a huge amount of pace in the match now, Real just knocking the ball around at will.

That is until Jota gives away a needless free-kick, 25 yards out. Too wide for even Kroos to consider going for goal.

21:29 , Matt Verri

71 mins: Camavinga is indeed on, replacing Tchouameni. Decent options to have.

Three Celtic changes - Mooy, Kyogo and Turnbull are the trio introduced for the hosts.

21:28 , Matt Verri

69 mins: Alaba breaks forward and wins a corner for Real, which they are in no rush to take.

Camavinga coming on for Celtic - the good news just keeps on coming. Corner is taken short, comes to nothing.

21:24 , Matt Verri

66 mins: Bit more possession now for Celtic, which they badly needed just to calm things down.

Play stopped now though, Juranovic goes down under a fairly innocuous challenge and is holding his knee. Looks like he’ll be fine to continue.

21:21 , Matt Verri

63 mins: Real pouncing on every loose Celtic pass now, feel like there are more goals in this for them.

Modric again on the counter, dinks a cross to the back post and it’s headed behind for a Real corner.

GOAL! Celtic 0-2 Real Madrid | Luka Modric 60'

21:19 , Matt Verri

Ruthless from Real!

They drive at the Celtic defence, Modric into the box. Cuts onto his left foot, ball bobbles around but stays under his control and he then pokes it past Hart.

Celtic goalkeeper gets a hand on it, not enough.

21:18 , Matt Verri

59 mins: Goal hasn’t changed the pattern of play, Real still seeing all of the ball.

Celtic starting to look a bit leggy - have their first-half efforts caught up with them? Those missed chances certainly looking more and more costly now.

GOAL! Celtic 0-1 Real Madrid | Vinicius Junior 56'

21:15 , Matt Verri

REAL TAKE THE LEAD!

One of the few occasions this half that Celtic press right up, Real just play around them.

Valverde with a lovely low cross into thebox, Vinicius just guides it into the bottom corner. Hart with no chance.

21:11 , Matt Verri

53 mins: So poor from Carvajal. Has Vinicius making a run through the middle, Valverde to his right.

Looks for Valverde, but way too much on the pass and his team-mate can’t keep it in play. Huge cheers from the Celtic fans behind the goal, who are loving every second of this.

21:09 , Matt Verri

50 mins: Not happening for Real in forward areas, play keeps breaking down for them.

They win it back high up the pitch here, Modric drives forward and finds Vinicius. He is absolutely clattered by Jenz, perfect challenge.

21:06 , Matt Verri

47 mins: Massive chance for Celtic!

They counter really well, Jota leading the charge. Worked out to the right wing, drilled into the box and Maeda is completely free.

Scuffs the effort though - had to score.

Back underway!

21:03 , Matt Verri

Up and running again at Celtic Park. Rudiger on for Militao for the visitors.

Almost!

Carlo Ancelotti predicting more Real Madrid success

18:12 , Jonathan Gorrie

“It’s not a surprise for me not being the odds-on favorite, I think it’s a good sign,” Ancelotti told a news conference in Glasgow on the eve of Tuesday’s opening Group F game.

“I think that last year we had even less probability in the statistics to win it. And we have an improved team this season.

“What happened last year will happen again. We are going to compete until the end and, hopefully, we will compete in the final.”

Ange Postecoglou vows to take the game to Real Madrid

18:06 , Jonathan Gorrie

“There’s no point playing football a certain way and then, when you get the opportunity to measure it against the best, you shy away from it,” the Australian said.

“You could go out there tomorrow and limit the damage and might get a win playing a different way, but have you really tested yourself? I don’t think you have.

“We go out there tomorrow night being the football team we have been to this point. Then you’ve got a real measure of where you’re at.

“If we’re short of where we need to be then we go back, dust ourselves off, work at it again and get a bit closer next time.”

Prediction

17:36 , Jonathan Gorrie

Celtic rightly so fancy their chances against any team at home, even the Champions League holders.

However, the gulf in talent is clear to see, even for the most ardent of Celtic fans, so even a point could be considered an achievement for the hosts. I don’t think they will even get that, unfortunately.

Real Madrid to win 2-0.
