Too Darn Hot was cut to a best-priced 4/1 favourite for the 2,000 Guineas with GentingBet after running out an impressive winner of the Howcroft Industrial Supplies Champagne Stakes at Doncaster.

Under Frankie Dettori, the son of Dubawi took his unbeaten record to three in the Group 2 contest, after sitting off the fast early pace set by Cadini and Bye Bye Hong Kong.

The Italian crept into the race and sent Too Darn Hot about his work with two furlongs to run and the 4/11 favourite quickly went to the front and stretched clear to beat Acomb winner Phoenix Of Spain by a length and three-quarters.

Dark Vision never appeared happy and finished last under Silvestre de Sousa.

GentingBet were impressed by the winner, making Too Darn Hot, owned by Lady Lloyd Webber, their new 4/1 market leader for next May’s Newmarket mile Classic.

Winning trainer John Gosden said: “He was very impressive and it took Frankie a long time to pull him up. He and Seamie went past the Leger start and up to Rose Hill.

“It’s a long way to gallop out after a seven-furlong two-year-old race. Maybe they were trying to find out if they’ll stay middle-distances next year!

“I’m happy with him and he did everything right. He quickened up from a long way back – he’s a young, talented horse. He’s in the three Group Ones in October and there’ll be no decision (on which one he runs in) for 10 days.”

Dettori added: “That was very special. What he did between the three and the one blew me away. I guess the next step is a Group One, but he is very talented. When you run him on a flat track you can really feel his gears. He’s learning how to race and everything he did today was amazing.”
