  • REAL MADRID or MANCHESTER CITY vs LYON or JUVENTUS

  • LEIPZIG vs ATLETICO MADRID

  • NAPOLI or BARCELONA vs CHELSEA or BAYERN MUNICH

  • ATALANTA vs PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN

Manchester City will face Lyon or Juventus in the Champions League quarter-finals if they overcome Real Madrid.

After play was suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, play will resume next month with the remaining last-16 ties before the qualified teams descend on Portugal for a final eight competition.

The draw for Champions League mini-tournament was made in Nyon on Friday, with City to face Lyon or Juventus in the quarter-finals if they can progress past Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium.

Chelsea head to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich trailing 3-0 in their Champions League round-of-16 tie, with the victor of that tie facing either Barcelona or Napoli.

RB Leipzig will play Atletico Madrid and Atalanta were drawn against Paris St Germain in the other quarter-finals.

Should City progress through their last-16 and quarter-final ties, Guardiola's men would face Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Barcelona or Napoli in the semi-finals.

Leipzig or Atletico Madrid will face Atalanta or PSG in the other semi-final, which will provide the home team for the final at the empty Estadio da Luz on August 23.

With a lovely graphic.

A big chance for PSG, perhaps, to reach the final if they can get past Atalanta, with Leipzig or Atletico lying in wait in the semi-finals.

Semi-final draw

And here's how the semi-finals will stack up. Potential for an all-English tie, although Chelsea have a mountain to climb.

  • QF1 (REAL MADRID or MANCHESTER CITY vs LYON or JUVENTUS) vs QF3 (NAPOLI or BARCELONA vs CHELSEA or BAYERN MUNICH)
  • QF2 (LEIPZIG vs ATLETICO MADRID) vs QF4 (ATALANTA vs PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN)

The winner of Semi-final 2 will be the 'home' team for the final (although it will be at a neutral venue).

We have a special guest...

It's Paulo Sousa! A back-to-back Champions League winner with Juventus and Borussia Dortmund, don't you know. He's also talking up the knockout stages being held in Lisbon.

Quite amazing to play for one side (Juventus) and defeat the other in the final (Dortmund), before joining the other club and beating your former side in next year's final.

Time for the draw

At last... as UEFA praise health workers across the continent. Quarter-finals draw should start any moment now.

Lockdown is working well for Lyon's Juninho Pernambucano

The free-kick specialist is now the club's sporting director. My Portuguese isn't great, sadly, but I'm sure what he said was wonderful.

That link worked perfectly. Two more with Atletico and Real Madrid have been disasters.

We're live

Clubs are connected to the draw via video conference, as opposed to being in the room in Nyon.

Should add, there is genuinely one other person in the press room.

Ten-minute warning

Interest in who Manchester City and Chelsea might be facing, of course, but also in Atalanta, who are through to the last eight in the Champions League for the first time under Gian Piero Gasperini.

Jose's Inter

No Milan representation in this year's knockout draw, but it's 10 years since Inter's run to the title under Jose Mourinho. Here's a look back at that majestic campaign from the equally majestic Sam Dean.

“I was ready to kill and die for him,” said Sneijder, a few months after Inter’s Champions League final victory over Bayern Munich. “Jose always made it clear that we could do more,” said Zanetti earlier this month. “Mourinho knows everything about everyone and always says the right things,” said Materazzi, the hard man who famously crumpled into Mourinho’s arms, tears streaming down both their faces, after that victory in the Santiago Bernabeu.

The difference maker

Manchester City's quest for a first Champions League title hingers on their French centre-back Aymeric Laporte, writes Luke Edwards.

Laporte is one of those centre-backs who is good at everything. The sort other centre-backs look at enviously, like a child forced to drink cola out of a warm can while his friend gets a bottle, with a glass of ice and a slice of lemon.

A mini World Cup

Background on how the Champions League knockout stages will take place in Lisbon, from James Ducker.

Uefa consider staging all three crunched rounds in the same city to be the safest, most convenient and most cost effective measure, although the plans will not be finalised until a meeting of their executive committee.

All eyes on Manchester City

Morning everyone.

With Chelsea facing a significant 0-3 deficit against Bayern Munich, and defending champions Liverpool having been knocked out by Atletico Madrid, English representation in the last eight of the Champions League seems to rest on Manchester City's shoulders.

Pep Guardiola's side hold a 2-1 advantage over Real Madrid following the first leg of their last-16 tie.

Remember what happened then? Me neither, really. Here's James Ducker with a reminder.

All you need to know

When are the draws?

The draws for the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, semi-finals and final will take place at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland on Friday 10 July. The draw ceremony will begin at midday CET.

Who is involved?

There are four teams already qualified for the quarter-finals:

Atalanta (ITA)

Atlético (ESP)

Leipzig (GER)

Paris Saint-Germain (FRA)

There are four round of 16 ties still to be concluded:

Chelsea (ENG) / Bayern München (GER)

Napoli (ITA) / Barcelona (ESP)

Real Madrid (ESP) / Manchester City (ENG)

Lyon (FRA) / Juventus (ITA)

How do the draws work?

There are three draws: for the quarter-finals; for the semi-finals, pitting together quarter-final ties; and then a third to determine the 'home' side in the final for administrative reasons. There are no seedings and no country protection, so teams can face opposition from the same national association.

Where will the games take place?

The final will be held at Benfica's Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica. This season's quarter-finals, semi-finals and final will be played as a straight knockout tournament in Lisbon, Portugal in August. All these ties will be single-leg fixtures. The games will be split between Benfica's Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica (which will host the final) and Sporting CP's Estádio José Alvalade.

What are the key dates?

August 7–8: Round of 16 second legs

August 12–15: Quarter-finals (Lisbon)

August 18–19: Semi-finals (Lisbon)

August 23: Final (Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica, Lisbon)
