The 2022/23 season has arrived and with it European football is once again on the agenda.
Draws for the qualifying rounds of Uefa competitions have been made, with Rangers among the sides looking to reach the Champions League group stage and West Ham heavy favourites to make it through their Europa Conference League play-off clash.
Attention will then turn to the serious business, as Europe’s elite get their continental campaigns underway.
Real Madrid are Champions League holders, while Manchester City and PSG are among the sides desperate to finally get their hands on the trophy. Tottenham return to Europe’s top table under Antonio Conte.
All those sides will find out their group-stage fate later this month - here’s all you need to know about the draw.
When is the Champions League group stage draw?
The draw will take place on Thursday, August 25, 2022.
It will be held in Istanbul, hosts of the 2023 Champions League final.
What time is the Champions League group stage draw?
The draw is currently scheduled to take place at 4pm BST.
Have the pots been decided?
The majority of clubs in this season’s Champions League group-stage draw have already been confirmed.
Pot A contains last season’s winners Real Madrid, Europa League holders Eintracht Frankfurt and the champions of Europe’s six top leagues. Ajax also qualify for Pot A, due to Real winning both La Liga and the Champions League.
The remaining three pots are decided by UEFA coefficient, with Pot B decided and the Pot C almost confirmed. Benfica will complete that pot should they come through qualifying - if not then Marseille are one of the clubs that could take their place.
The rest of Pot D will be locked in once the qualifying rounds have been played.
As ever, teams from the same country cannot face each other. There are plenty of strong sides in Pot C, meaning the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham could potentially find themselves in a group with Real, Inter Milan and Marseille.
