Cesc Fabregas made his feelings clear about managing in the Premier League weeks before Eden Hazard tipped him as the potential new manager of Chelsea.

The dugout is empty at Stamford Bridge following Mauricio Pochettino's exit last week, sparking speculation about his successor. High-profile names in the frame include Roberto De Zerbi, formerly of Brighton, and Leicester's Enzo Maresca, while Kieran McKenna from Ipswich Town has apparently taken himself out of contention.

When quizzed by talkSPORT on whether he'd like to see De Zerbi managing Chelsea next term, the recently retired Hazard dropped a bombshell: "Maybe. I have my friend (Fabregas) also in Como. He can be the first manager."

Currently serving as assistant manager at Como, Fabregas briefly held the interim head coach position before Osian Roberts took over, with Fabregas stepping into the number two role as the team recently celebrated their ascent to Serie A, reports the Mirror.

Hazard, who shared the pitch with Fabregas for half a decade, seems convinced that his old comrade could successfully guide a youthful Chelsea squad. While Fabregas has openly expressed his desire to lead a Premier League side one day, he acknowledges there's no need to hurry his progression to a managerial hotseat.

"You never know how the future will go, but I want to be a main coach," Fabregas revealed to Standard Sport just six weeks prior. "I am doing my own way at the moment. 100% my ambition one day is to coach a top club in the Premier League, the Champions League.

"But you need to respect the right steps. I feel I am ready to be a first-team coach already so I don't really want to go into these types of little coaching on the side or being an assistant.

"I have very clear things in my mind that I just want to be a main coach, a first-team coach. And that's why I will do my own way until I am ready to jump onto a big train."
