Chelsea reportedly face competition from three other Premier League clubs for the signature of Lille forward Jonathan David.

The Blues opened talks with the attacker’s camp last week after Lille president Olivier Letang gave permission for the Canadian to seek a transfer this summer with just a year left on his deal. The striker is keen on a switch away from his club, football.london understands.

Chelsea have made contact with the player’s agents but are not yet thought to have formally approach his club. David scored 19 league goals in 34 matches last season to finish as the second highest scorer in Ligue 1.

David could be landed for as little as £25m, which is apparently attracting the attention of Tottenham, Manchester United and West Ham. It’s mooted that Chelsea had held an interest in David back when Graham Potter was in charge.

Discussions over a transfer may be stunted by the forward’s participation in this summer’s Copa America with Canada, having started the opening 2-0 defeat to Argentina on Friday. The country’s final group game against Chile takes place this Friday after Tuesday’s clash versus Peru. The knockout stages begin a week on Wednesday on July 4.

Speaking in 2022, David admitted his desire to play in the Premier League during his career. "In England, when I watch the matches, everything is full each time. As a player, it motivates you even more,” he said.

"I don't know, I think it's possible, very possible. I don't know if I can find myself anywhere other than the Premier League. It could well be the Premier League. It's a very nice atmosphere."

Enzo Maresca has already completed two signings since his appointment, acquiring free agent Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham and landing young Brazilian talent Estevao Willian, who joins from Palmeiras upon turning 18 next summer.

Chelsea are meanwhile thought to be speaking to Barcelona over potentially acquiring 18-year-old Marc Guiu, said to have a £5m release clause.

The Spain under-19 international enjoyed seven senior outings during a breakthrough campaign last year, scoring twice including once in the Champions League.
