Chelsea won the Champions League after beating Manchester City 1-0 on a famous night in Porto on Saturday.

James Robson was at Estadio do Dragao and this is how he rated the Blues players…

Edouard Mendy 7

Rarely forced into saves, but commanded his area well with sound handling.

Cesar Azpilicueta 7

Some important interceptions to cut out City’s overloads out wide – none more so than the cross to deny Gundogan a tap in.

Thiago Silva 6

Heart-breaking to see him go off in the first half. Hadn’t put a foot wrong.

Toni Rudiger 8

Brilliant tackle on Foden denied City an opener. So many crunching tackles. Collision that saw De Bruyne go off was unfortunate.

Reece James 8

His battle with Sterling was one of the narratives of the match and kept pace with the winger step for step.

N’Golo Kante 9

Absolutely imperious. The finest defensive midfielder of his generation, yet so much more. There were three of him out there.

Jorginho 7

Important roles as City looked to overload in attack. Perfect positioning and use of the ball.

Ben Chilwell 7

Wonderful block denied Mahrez. Given loads of space to hurt City on the left.

Timo Werner 6

Caused City so many problems with his movement – but his finishing is nowhere near the required level

Kai Havertz 8

Rewarded Tuchel’s faith with the opening goal. Hold up play was also important as City applied the pressure in the second half.

Mason Mount 7

Looked leggy recently, but his tireless tracking was superb and provided a wonderful for Havertz to score.

Substitutes

Andreas Christensen (Silva, 39’) 7

Unlucky not to start – but continued his outstanding form when coming on, with City creating little. Magnificent late block on Foden.

Christian Pulisic (Werner 66’) 6

How did he miss the chance to kill the game off earlier? Still a real threat with his dribbling.

Mateo Kovacic (Mount, 80’) 5

Brought on late to disrupt City’s flow. It worked

Subs not used: Kepa, Caballero, Alonso, Zouma, Giroud, Hudson-Odoi, Ziyech, Gilmour, Emerson
