Chelsea's decision on their next manager is reportedly coming soon as Tood Boehly and co. edge closer to appointing Mauricio Pochettino's successor.

The Blues opted to mutually part ways with the Argentine last week after conducting their end-of-season review at Stamford Bridge. While speculation had been growing around the future of the former PSG and Tottenham Hotspur boss, seven wins in the final ten Premier League matches pushed Chelsea to sixth and looked like it could be enough to save his job but it was not to be.

Boehly is keen on making an appointment quickly to ensure the new manager has enough time to build their squad in their own image for the new campaign. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, this process is nearing its conclusion with three names ruled out of the running.

Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna is likely to be out of the conversation but remains in the hunt for the Brighton and Hove Albion position. Our colleagues at sister title Manchester Evening News understand that Manchester United's ex-assistant manager would prefer a return to Old Trafford if the opportunity arose.

Some speculation also suggested that Sporting Lisbon's Ruben Amorim was in contention for the job, potentially as the 'mystery manager'. However, it is believed Chelsea are focusing solely on a manager who has previous experience working in English football.

For likely similar reasons, Barcelona legend Xavi is also not in the running at this stage since leaving the Catalan club but he is open to opportunities. It is understood the leading candidate is Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca.

Romano reports that positive talks were held with Pep Guardiola's former assistant over the weekend and Maresca is keen on taking the Chelsea job. However, the ball is now firmly in the club's hands as they decide whether he is the right man to replace Pochettino.
