Chelsea defender Dylan Williams has agreed to join League One outfit Burton Albion on a season-long loan deal.

The 20-year-old, who moved to Chelsea from Derby County in January 2022, has been a mainstay in the club's Under 21s set up since his move to West London. Last season, Williams made 23 appearances for the young Blues, scoring two goals and assisting four. He helped them reach the Premier League 2 play-offs, progressing through to the semi-final before losing to Tottenham last month.

He failed to make a first-team appearance for Chelsea, however, despite being named on the bench on multiple occasions. The last of those came in the goalless draw against Aston Villa in the FA Cup. And now, Williams has secured an exit route away from Stamford Bridge.

It's reported that Williams is set to join former Chelsea U21s boss Mark Robinson at Burton. The youngster has already completed his medical and will effectively leave the Blues permanently, with an obligation-to-buy clause inserted in his contract at the end of his loan spell next summer according to the BBC with an agreement 'reached'.

Robinson departed Chelsea earlier this month to join the Brewers, who are embarking on a new era with new owners, Nordic Football Group. Burton narrowly avoided relegation to League Two last season but have already made significant changes to their squad ahead of pre-season.

Charlie Webster has also joined from Chelsea, former Blues goalkeeper Jamal Blackman has moved from Exeter City, and a number of others have signed. One of them is Danilo Orsi, who scored 25 goals in 50 appearances for Crawley last season in League Two, and will add firepower to their ranks.

Burton are set to begin pre-season training on Monday at St George's Park.
