Chelsea player ratings vs Arsenal: Thiago Silva one of few bright sparks in disappointing display

Gabriel Magalhaes’ tap-in gave Arsenal a deserved win away at Chelsea to put them back on top of the Premier League table.

Kai Havertz had the best opportunities for Chelsea with Pierre Emerick Aubameyang anonymous before being substituted shortly after Arsenal's goal.

Mikel Arteta’s side opened the scoring in the 63rd minute as Gabriel nudged home Bukayo Saka’s corner kick.

Chelsea were left stuck in seventh place with the defeat.

Nizaar Kinsella was at Stamford Bridge to witness the action...

Edouard Mendy - 6

Struggled in distribution early on but made a big save rushing out on Gabriel Jesus in the 62nd minute. He was not at fault for the goal which was down to poor set-piece organisation.

Cesar Azpilcueta - 5

The Blues captain couldn’t keep up with young attacker Gabriel Martinelli at times despite Ruben Loftus-Cheek doing his best to protect that flank. He was harshly booked for a high tackle where he cleanly won the ball.

Thiago Silva - 8

He produced a great last-ditch block on his international teammate Gabriel Jesus after Loftus-Cheek lost possession in the 20th minute. One of the few bright sparks on Sunday afternoon.

Trevoh Chalobah - 6

He had a busy game trying to stop the onrushing attacks and didn’t look out of place against the league leaders.

Marc Cucurella - 6

His tenacious defending gave away a few free-kicks early on but not necessarily in bad positions. Bukayo Saka did get some joy running behind him. A mixed afternoon for the £63million signing.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek - 6

Gave away possession in a dangerous area early on but did what he could to minimise the impact of Oleksandr Zinchenko and Martinelli down Arsenal’s left.

Jorginho - 7

Good ball to release Raheem Sterling on the break late in the first half who set up a shooting chance for Havertz. He was tidy throughout and heavily involved at both ends of the pitch.

Mason Mount - 5

He had a 21st-minute shot blocked after a good transition with Havertz and Sterling. His first corner was on the money, creating a half-chance for Thiago Silva who headed over. Ultimately, he couldn't create enough and came off late on for Christian Pulisic.

Kai Havertz - 4

Havertz was wasteful with Chelsea’s first chance being blazed high and wide on a counter attack. He kept losing the ball and making the wrong decision in the final third.

His poor defending at the near post allowed Arsenal’s corner to bounce through the box for Gabriel’s goal.

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang - 4

Booked for a studs up challenge on Ben White and failed to get into the first half as he was baited by fans of his former club. The image of the striker sitting angrily on the bench was great viewing for Arsenal fans.

Raheem Sterling - 7

A lively and creative start to the game, he created two chances for Havertz in the first half. His cross late on proved threatening but wasn’t read by Broja. A positive display.

Armando Broja - 7

The 21-year-old came on for Aubameyang in the 61st minute and immediately lifted his team. Almost created a chance with his direct dribbling early on.

Conor Gallagher - 5

Had little impact on the match coming on for Havertz in an advanced midfield role.

Christian Pulisic - N/A

Mateo Kovacic - N/A
