Chelsea have recalled midfielder Conor Gallagher from his loan spell at Charlton and will open discussions over another move this week.

The decision comes as a huge blow to Lee Bowyer's side, with the 19-year-old having played all but one of their Championship matches so far this season, scoring six goals.

After a fine start to the season, Chelsea are keen to see the youngster tested at a higher level and will consider offers from clubs pushing for promotion from the Championship or those lower down in the Premier League this month.

Relegation-battling Aston Villa were thought to be keen on a deal for Gallagher, who is represented by the same agency that look after former Chelsea captain and current Villa assistant John Terry.

However, no Premier League team is allowed to take more than one player on loan from the same club, meaning Danny Drinkwater's move to Villa Park rules Dean Smith's side out of the running for Gallagher.
