Chelsea could have a secret weapon in negotiations with Leicester City as Enzo Maresca eyes a reunion with midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

The 25-year-old was a standout player for the Foxes under Maresca last season as they lifted the Championship title and returned to the Premier League for the first time of asking. The Blues have overtaken Brighton in the race for the midfielder.

football.london understands that Chelsea have made a move for the Leicester City academy graduate. Leicester could be open to selling due to the pressure they are under to comply with the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability rules before the June 30 unofficial deadline.

Reports suggest that Chelsea could include players in an offer to Leicester to try and convince the newly-promoted side to cash in. Names mentioned include David Datro Fofana, Armando Broja and Cesare Casadei.

Casadei is known to Leicester, having spent the first half of last season on loan at the King Power Stadium. The 21-year-old played 25 times for the club, scoring three times and providing two assists, he did however sometimes find regular starts hard to come by before being recalled by Chelsea in the January window.

Responding to the Blues’ decision at the time, Maresca admitted his surprise and outlined that both parties were happy with the loan. "I know that Cesare was happy here. We were happy with Cesare," he said in January.

"The reason that they decided to bring him back, I don’t know. The only thing that I can say is that we lost players in January. The reason why is a question for Chelsea."

The fact that Casadei was happy at Leicester and that the club was happy to have him could now be good news for Chelsea. Including Casadei in a potential deal for Dewsbury-Hall could possibly make it more likely for Leicester to accept.

The club will know the player and the player will know the club, meaning that there shouldn’t be too much of a settling-in period. Leicester will also know Casadei’s personality and how he fits into the group.

It also possibly takes away the Chelsea player involved in the swap turning down a deal. Having spent time at Leicester, it could mean that Casadei will be more open to a return.
