Christian Pulisic is yet to speak to Maurizio Sarri since agreeing to join Chelsea

Christian Pulisic has revealed that he is yet to speak to Maurizio Sarri despite agreeing to join Chelsea last week, adding to the manager’s admission that he did not know the club were going to sign the midfielder from Borussia Dortmund.

Chelsea announced the £58m transfer last week in what is the biggest deal of the January transfer window so far, although Pulisic is not due to join up with his new club until the summer after being loaned back to Dortmund for the rest of the season as they look to maintain their Bundesliga title charge.

The 20-year-old will arrive with a blossoming reputation in European football, but Sarri revealed in the wake of the announcement that he was unaware Chelsea had signed the United States international, having only been asked for his opinion on his talents in December.

"I didn't know anything about Pulisic yesterday," Sarri said last week. "The club asked my opinion about him about one month ago. My opinion was positive. Today I have known that the deal is done, but I didn't know anything."

Pulisic has since added to that by revealing the pair are still yet to speak for the first time, with his focus still on Dortmund as he looks to give his all to maintain their six-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga table.

Asked if he’s spoken to Sarri since signing for Chelsea, Pulisic told ESPN: "No, nothing like that.

"Like I said, I've been here and playing with Dortmund the whole time and I've been focused here, but I'll be really excited once the time comes."

While Pulisic is one of the first names on the team sheet at Dortmund, he believes he will need to prove his worth to Sarri regardless of his hefty price tag, given the current options that the Italian has at his disposal.

"You have to go in and earn your spot and prove you are worthy of being on the field," he added.

"I think they definitely see me in one of the wider areas, but I think they also know that I can play kind anywhere across the attack. So I'm ready for wherever I need to be filled in really."
