Chelsea suffered another setback in their erratic season on Saturday when they were held to a 2-2 home draw by 10-man Burnley who remain deep in Premier League relegation trouble.

Mauricio Pochettino’s expensively-assembled side looked to be in the driving seat when Burnley‘s Lorenz Assignon was shown a second yellow card for bringing down Mykhailo Mudryk and top-scorer Cole Palmer converted the resulting penalty in the 44th minute.

But Josh Cullen stunned Stamford Bridge by scoring two minutes into the second half with a fine shot from outside the box.

Chelsea struggled to make their numerical advantage count before restoring their lead in the 78th minute when Palmer scored again, this time with a low shot. Burnley were level again three minutes later, however, when Dara O’Shea headed home from a corner.

The draw left Chelsea in 11th place in the table while Burnley are 19th, four points behind 17-placed Nottingham Forest.

Ten-man Burnley come from behind twice to earn a point in a 2-2 draw with Chelsea. The Blues dominated the first half, and Disasi had a goal ruled out by VAR for handball before Palmer gave them the lead. Mudryk was brought down in the box by Assignon, and the referee pointed to the spot before sending the Frenchman off for his second booking, which was quickly followed by a red card for Kompany for dissent. Palmer scored a wonderful Panenka to put them in front, but Burnley pulled level just two minutes after the break through Cullen's long-range strike. Muric made vital saves to keep his side in it before Palmer got his second of the game with a filled finish, but just three minutes later, O'Shea thumped in an equaliser. Sterling missed a sitter, while Rodriguez struck the bar as both teams searched for a winner, but there was nothing to split the sides. Chelsea went off to boos from the home fans and now turn their attention to Manchester United on Thursday as they stay in 11th. Burnley are still 19th but are now four points from safety. They host Wolves on Tuesday. That's all for today, goodbye!

FULL-TIME: CHELSEA 2-2 BURNLEY.

Chelsea vs Burnley

16:58

Cullen can only delay the Chelsea attack when it gets caught under his feet, but the Blues win it back before spreading it to Madueke on the right. Taylor stands his ground to give away a corner, but Burnley just about clear their lines.

Chelsea vs Burnley

16:56

Esteve does dawdle over a free-kick, and he's booked for time-wasting.

Chelsea vs Burnley

16:56

We're into the first of five additional minutes here, and Muric is trying to take his team over a clearance. He knows he can't take too long, and when he does throw it upfield, Rodriguez wins a free-kick.

Chelsea vs Burnley

16:55

It's end-to-end at the minute as both sides push for a winner late on here. Palmer, unsurprisingly, is at the centre of it all for Chelsea again, but when he slides it forward for Madueke, Muric reacts quickest to cut out the pass.

Chelsea vs Burnley

16:53

OFF THE BAR! Chelsea are all over the place during another Burnley corner, and Rodriguez rises high above everybody to thump a header on goal. Petrovic is beaten, but it smacks the bar, and Rodriguez can only volley his follow-up effort well wide.

Chelsea vs Burnley

16:49

WHAT A MISS! Cullen is reluctant to close Palmer down, and he's able to pick out another wonderful cross. Sterling peels away from his defender to get a free header, and when it looks easier to score, he sends his header wide of the far post.

Chelsea vs Burnley

16:48

WIDE! Sterling switches it out to Madueke on the right of the box, and he drops a shoulder to lose Esteve. He drags at his shot though, and it rolls just wide of Muric's near post.

Burnley win another free-kick on the left, and Cullen floats a great cross into the far post. Rodriguez goes to attack it, but Badiashile just manages to shepherd it out for a corner.

Chelsea vs Burnley

16:43

Craig Bellamy is screaming instructions on the sidelines as he tries to organise his team. Chelsea are finding more space in behind, and the Burnley coach is trying to close them before they're punished.

Goal Cole Jermaine Palmer

Chelsea vs Burnley

16:39

SAVE! Muric is keeping his side in the game here as he stops another Chelsea attack. Cucurella pulls it back to Palmer on the edge of the D, but his pacy shot is held by the goalkeeper at the near bottom corner.

Chelsea vs Burnley

16:37

WHAT A CHANCE! Fernandez lifts a long pass over the top to Madueke, and he can only touch it into Gusto's path. He drills an inviting ball across the face of goal, and Jackson directs his first-time shot back across goal and wide.

Chelsea vs Burnley

16:36

Substitution Moisés Isaac Caicedo Corozo Raheem Shaquille Sterling

Chelsea vs Burnley

16:34

And Odobert, who has been a lot quieter in the second half after a bright first 45 minutes, goes off for Gudmundsson.

Chelsea vs Burnley

16:34

Burnley are making a double change this time. Foster, who could easily have put Burnley ahead in this game with his header, goes off for Rodriguez.

Chelsea vs Burnley

16:34

SAVE! Chelsea just about clear their lines after a Burnley free-kick, and Mudryk surges forward on the counter. He lays it off to Madueke on the edge of the D, but his low shot is straight at Muric.

Chelsea vs Burnley

16:33

Chelsea have had 79.2 per cent of the possession in the second half so far, and they're still keeping Burnley penned back deep. The Clarets are still standing firm though, even as the pressure increases.

Chelsea vs Burnley

16:30

After struggling against Gusto down the left in the first half, Vitinho is now have a hard time keeping up with Mudryk after switching to the opposite flank. The Ukrainian gets away again, but the shot at the end of the run is poor.

Chelsea vs Burnley

16:27

GREAT SAVE! Chelsea have found their first-half rhythm again now, and Mudryk makes another brilliant run down the left. He pulls it back from the byline to Jackson, but Muric makes himself big to block the first-time shot.

Chelsea vs Burnley

16:25

Substitution Conor John Gallagher Chukwunonso Tristan Madueke

Chelsea vs Burnley

16:24

BLOCK! Gallagher weaves past two Burnley defenders before touching it back to Mudryk, who loses O'Shea with a clever dummy. He takes the shot on after, but Esteve throws himself in front of it to make a vital block.

Chelsea vs Burnley

16:22

GREAT SAVE! Burnley could've been in front! Cullen peels out to the left this time and looks to turn provider as he whips a dangerous cross to the edge of the six-yard box. Foster gets goalside of Badiashile to thump a header on goal, but Petrovic gets behind it.

Chelsea vs Burnley

16:21

Fernandez's throughball takes a big deflection and Burnley are static until Mudryk touches it. O'Shea slides in to stop him from having a shot before Chelsea recycle it out to Gusto. His first touch is poor though, and Taylor sees it back to Muric.

Chelsea vs Burnley

16:20

There's been just one shot in the second half so far, which obviously became Burnley's equaliser. Cullen scored from an xG of just 0.03, and Chelsea haven't managed a reply just yet.

Chelsea vs Burnley

16:17

Chelsea are back to dominating possession here, but it's all in front of a compact Burnley side. The Blues are staying patient, but there's no space to work in at the moment.

Chelsea vs Burnley

16:15

Palmer is the fifth player to reach 20 goal involvements in his first Premier League season with Chelsea after Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink (32 in 2000-01), Eden Hazard (20 in 2012-13), Diego Costa (23 in 2014-15) and Cesc Fabregas (21 in 2014-15).

Chelsea vs Burnley

16:13

That goal has silenced the home crowd, and Chelsea are working to try and change that. They look to Gusto on the right once more, but he can't get away from Taylor this time.

Chelsea vs Burnley

16:04

Despite a slightly slow start, Pochettino will be pleased with what he's seen from his side. They created an xG (expected goals) of 2.33 from their 16 shots, seven of which were on target, and they look likely to add more to their tally after the break. Burnley had a couple of bright moments but only managed an xG of 0.48 from their 10 shots. Petrovic made a couple of comfortable saves, but this could be a long second half for the 10-man Clarets.

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:58

Palmer's penalty separates the sides at the break, with Chelsea beating 10-man Burnley 1-0. The Blues were dominant in the first half, and they thought they'd taken the lead through Disasi 20 minutes in, but the goal was disallowed as it went in off his elbow. Muric made some great saves to deny Fernandez and Jackson before things went downhill for Burnley. Assignon brought down Mudryk in the box, and the referee pointed to the spot and gave the Frenchman his second yellow of the game. Kompany was also sent off for dissent before Palmer scored a wonderful Panenka penalty to put his side in front.

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:54

HALF-TIME: CHELSEA 1-0 BURNLEY.

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:53

GOOD SAVE! Gusto has shown a real threat down the right all game so far, and he advances forward from right-back once more. He takes on a shot himself this time, but Muric makes himself big to smother it.

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:52

Burnley are sitting deeper than they were earlier in the game, allowing Chelsea to keep possession in front of them. The Blues are staying patient though, trying to draw them out.

KOMPANY IS SENT OFF! The Burnley manager is not happy with the penalty and red card decisions, and he is making that point first to the fourth official and then to the referee. He crosses a line with his protests, and he is also shown a red card, much to the home fans' amusement.

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:45

Penalty Goal Cole Jermaine Palmer

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:44

VAR has a long look at the penalty incident, but they don't see anything wrong with the referee's onfield decision. The penalty stands, but Assignon is still refusing to leave the pitch.

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:43

PENALTY TO CHELSEA! Mudryk is racing onto a throughball into the box, and Assignon gets back into position. The ball gets away from the Ukrainian, and the defender puts his arm on Mudryk's shoulder to nudge him down. The referee points to the spot!

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:42

CHANCE! Palmer's throughball is just too heavy for Caicedo, but it runs out to Gusto on the right. He fizzes a low cross into the middle, and Cucurella throws himself forward to meet it with his head. It's straight at Muric though.

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:41

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:38

Petrovic makes an easy save from Bruun Larsen's free-kick and sends it long upfield. Jackson races out to the left to meet it, with Muric also rushing out of his box. The forward just gets there first, but the goalkeeper recovers well to poke it away for a corner.

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:37

Cucurella steps across Assignon to block his run, and though there isn't a lot of contact, the Spaniard knew what he was doing. He gives away a free-kick, and gets a booking.

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:37

SAVE! It's a hopeful clearance upfield, but Jackson latches onto it with a bursting run down the right. He cuts inside to lose Vitinho before laying it off to Mudryk, but he tries to guide it into the net, leaving Muric with a comfortable save.

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:34

Cucurella is looking for a forward pass, but there's no movement ahead of him. Assignon quickly closes him down, and Chelsea are forced all the way back to the goalkeeper, much to the fans' frustration.

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:32

Chelsea have scored at least once in all 17 of their Premier League games against Burnley, the most they've ever faced a side while scoring 100 per cent of the time in the competition.

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:31

Burnley have really struggled to deal with the threat that Chelsea are posing down their right. Gusto drives to the byline before pulling it back to Jackson, who can't sort his feet out quickly enough to have a shot.

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:27

SAVE! Assignon's long throw is allowed all the way through to Cullen on the edge of the D, and he quickly adjusts himself to shoot. He drills his low shot through the crowd, but Petrovic gets down to hold onto it.

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:26

Chelsea push forward in numbers once more, and the space just opens up for Gallagher through the middle. A deflection off O'Shea takes it neatly into Muric's gloves, and Palmer is furious, as he was completely unmarked to his right.

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:25

NO GOAL! After a very long look at the goal from all angles, it appears that Disasi didn't get his head to the ball, and as it came off his line, the goal will be ruled out. Still 0-0!

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:24

DISASI SCORES! The corner was taken short to Mudryk, and he whips a dangerous cross in from the left. Berge gets the deftest of touches at the near post, but can only help it onto Disasi, who bundles it over the line from close range. There is a VAR check though, and this might not count...

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:24

The initial VAR check was to see if Mudryk was offside, but once that's cleared, they look to see if the final touch by Disasi was off his arm. He ducked his head to try and head it, but it does look like the ball went in off his elbow.

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:21

Assist Mykhailo Mudryk

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:20

GREAT SAVE! Chelsea work it wonderfully down their right side again, and this time, Palmer tries to turn provider. He threads it through to Jackson, who hits his low shot across goal towards the far post, but Muric stays big, making a big block with his foot.

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:19

BLOCK! It's a great throughball down the right by Caicedo, and Gusto surges down the wing to meet it. He pulls it back to Palmer, who hits his shot first time, but O'Shea makes sure he's in the way of it.

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:17

Yellow Card Lorenz Assignon

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:16

GOOD SAVE! Just like Palmer, Odobert has been bright so far, and he cuts inside from the left. As Gusto closes him down, the winger uses him as a shield to curl a shot towards the far post, but Petrovic gets a strong hand to it.

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:16

CHANCE! Palmer is causing all sorts of problems in the opening exchanges here, as he plays a one-two with Gallagher to open up space on the right of the box. He doesn't hit the shot cleanly though, hitting it wide of the near post once more.

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:13

WIDE! Amdouni is caught on the ball by Caicedo, and the midfielder rolls it into Palmer's feet. He isn't short on confidence as he takes on another pacy shot from range, but he fires this one wide of the near post.

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:11

GREAT SAVE! Chelsea finally manage to string together enough passes to get to the edge of the box, and Gallagher squares it across to Fernandez. His shot takes an awkward deflection off Esteve, but Muric adjusts quickly to tip it onto the bar.

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:10

WIDE! Seconds after Bruun Larsen bundled a shot wide, it's switched back out to the Dane on the right of the box. The angle is against him though, and he fizzes his low effort just wide of the far post.

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:09

Berge wants it more than Mudryk, and though Chelsea want a free-kick, the midfielder won it cleanly. Burnley have another chance to push forward, but Vitinho's throughball is too heavy for Odobert.

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:07

Chelsea are a bit sluggish in defence, and Gallagher trips Cullen to give away a free-kick through the middle. Bruun Larsen takes it, but his shot is straight at the wall, and it deflects out for a corner.

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:05

It's a positive run down the left by Odobert as he weaves between Chelsea players before pulling it back from the byline. Disasi scuffs it away, but the Blues only get to the halfway line before losing possession.

Chelsea vs Burnley

15:03

CHANCE! Chelsea are looking to make a quick start to this game, and Gallagher spreads it out to Palmer on the left. He has options in the middle, but chooses to go it alone instead, firing his shot into the side netting.

Bruun Larsen gets the game under way for Burnley!

Taylor starts on the bench, but in-form David Datro Fofana isn't available today as he's ineligible to face his parent club.

Chelsea vs Burnley

14:56

Mauricio Pochettino makes three changes to the side that beat Leicester in the FA Cup before the international break. Petrovic is back in goal, with Badiashile and Fernandez also coming in. Gusto has recovered from illness to retain his place, but Sterling drops to the bench. There are more injury troubles for the Blues as well, as Robert Sanchez, Trevoh Chalobah and Ben Chilwell have all picked up problems which keep them out today.

Chelsea vs Burnley

14:40

Burnley got their first win since before Christmas before the international break, beating 10-man Brentford 2-1 to end an 11-match winless run in all competitions (D3 L8). The Clarets are still five points below Luton Town in 17th place, but another win here would certainly give them a boost in the relegation fight. However, Burnley are one of three teams yet to win successive Premier League games this season (along with Crystal Palace and Sheffield United), and they haven't done so since April 2022, when they managed three in a row.

Chelsea vs Burnley

14:35

Chelsea still have an outside chance of booking a place in Europe next season, and a win here could move them into the top half of the table if results around them also go their way. The Blues are unbeaten in their four outings in all competitions since losing the EFL Cup final to Liverpool (W3 D1) and booked another trip to Wembley last time out as they beat Leicester City 4-2 to reach the FA Cup semi-final. Their home form is good too, having lost just one of their last 14 games at Stamford Bridge in all competitions (W10 D3).
