Chris Gayle Responds To Sir Curtly Ambrose’s Remark On His T20 World Cup Selection

Veteran West Indian batsman Chris Gayle has lambasted legendary fast bowler Curtly Ambrose for publicly talking about his poor run with the bat. Gayle said that he no longer respects the West Indian icon. He went on to say that Ambrose has been ‘against’ him since his retirement from international cricket and that he is only looking for publicity.

Earlier, while speaking to a radio station, Ambrose had said:

“No, he (Gayle) is not an automatic choice for me. The few home series (West Indies) just played, he had no scores of significance, and I have said before that if he did not do well in those home series, he should not go to the World Cup. However, he will be at the World Cup, but for me, he is definitely not an automatic choice for starting… If he gets it going on the day, he can be destructive, but he has not done much in the last 18 months or so to really make me think he will set the World Cup alight.”

These comments were not received well by the “Universe Boss”.Gayle said that he has no respect for Curtly now.“I can tell you personally and you can let him know that Chris Gayle, the Universe Boss, have no respect for Curtly Ambrose whatsoever”,he said on The Island Tea Morning Show.

Gayle also stated that when he first joined the West Indian team, he had the highest regard for Curtly, but after his retirement, Curtly has been seeking public attention by speaking out against Gayle.“Those negative things he has been saying within the press, I don’t know if he is looking for attention but he is getting the attention. So I am just giving back the attention which he requires and which he needs”,Gayle said.

Gayle also asked Ambrose to stop saying negative things and instead support West Indies in the world cup like the former players of other nations do.

“In other teams, their past players support their teams, why can’t our own support us in a big tournament like this?” said Gayle.

When approached by Cricbuzz, Curtly Ambrose said that he needs some time to assimilate what Gayle has said, and only after gathering his thoughts, he will give a reply.

“I will respond but I want to absorb the things he said, get my thoughts together and I will message you when I am ready to respond,” Ambrose said to Cricbuzz.

Meanwhile, talking about IPL 2021, Chris Gayle didn’t have a great season for Punjab Kings. The explosive opener failed to score a half-century in the 10 matches he played. He scored 193 runs in total at a below-par average of 21.44. Citing bio-bubble fatigue, Gayle left the IPL 2021 on Oct 1, to be fully charged for the all-important T20 World Cup.

West Indies will start their world cup campaign against England on 23 Oct in Dubai. Before that, they will also play two warm-up matches against Pakistan and Afghanistan.
