West Brom manager Sam Allardyce has declared his interest in signing Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke.

The former Palace boss is desperate to bring in a striker this month to aid the Baggies’ battle against the drop.

Benteke has forced his way back into Roy Hodgson's side this season but his future is in doubt following the arrival of Jean-Philippe Mateta on loan from Mainz last week.

Benteke is into the final six months of his deal at Selhurst Park worth more than £100,000-a-week and will become a free agent in the summer.

It is understood the Belgian has little interest in leaving Palace, who are 11 points clear of the bottom three, for a side in the midst of a relegation battle and where he would have to settle quickly.

Allardyce, however, says he would certainly be interested if Palace are happy to talk.

"I am not sure if Christian is available," Allardyce said on Monday morning. "If they came to me and said he was available....I am not sure that is the case at the moment.

"If he is available I would be interested, everybody knows I am interested in a frontman."
