Coach rejoins former club after leaving Carlisle United

Goalkeeping coach Dave Timmins has rejoined Ayr United following his Carlisle United departure.

The 53-year-old has returned north of the border to link back up with the Honest Men.

Timmins had left Ayr last summer to join Paul Simpson's backroom staff at Brunton Park.

But after a season with the Blues he has opted to move back to Scotland to rejoin Championship outfit Ayr, who are seventh in the second tier.

United boss Simpson recently said that Timmins had explained he was happier in Scotland.

“He’s come down here, he’s thrown his world into the club, he’s moved into a place in west Cumbria, but he just said his whole value of life and his enjoyment is up in Scotland," Simpson told the News & Star last month.

“He just said, ‘I’m so much more relaxed as a person [there]’ and I think that’s important.

“Like Chris Brunskill [the head physio who is leaving United for family reasons], his value of his life is more important than football – he’s made that decision, and Dave is exactly the same."

Timmins had returned to United for a second spell in place of Paul Gerrard, who left on the eve of 2023's pre-season.

Carlisle are now assessing applications for the keeper coach vacancy.

Simpson said he hoped to make an appointment "in the next few weeks" once the Blues had scrutinised the applicants' CVs and conducted interviews.
