Cole, Zakala, Somers all winners at Oneonta Rotary tourney

Jan. 8—More than a dozen wrestling teams were in Oneonta last weekend for the 34th Ross Cordell Oneonta Rotary Tournament.

Carthage finished first overall with Unatego/Unadilla Valley and Oneonta placing second and third, respectively.

Caleb Cole was victorious in the 124-pound bracket for U/UV while Gavin Nordberg (108) and Abdeen Zaggout (145) each placed second in their classes.

Earning third-place finishes for U/UV were Brogan Lefever (101) and Wyatt Meade (152) while Abdul-Jamil Zaggout (124), Ahmet Zaggout (131) and Shane Howell (138) each finished fourth.

For Oneonta, Jayden Zakala was the overall winner at 215 pounds.

Alan Little was third at 145 while Clayton Ritter (101), AlanMichael Rubin (160) and Darren Rose (170) each placed fourth.

TJ O'Connor of Cooperstown/Milford was second at 152 while teammates Matt Perrino (215) and Max Scharf (285) were both fourth.

Walton/Delhi's Justin Somers was the winner at 116 pounds and Aiden Branigan placed fourth at 108.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Hunter-Tannersville 40, Jefferson/Stamford 39

Hunter-Tannersville held off a furious rally by Jefferson/Stamford for a 40-39 victory in Monday's Delaware League contest.

Leading 38-20 entering the fourth quarter, H-T was able to hold on despite being outscored 19-2 in the final eight minutes.

Grady Glennon had a strong overall game with 19 points, eight rebounds and five assists in the win. Connor Schiefer, meanwhile, pulled down 10 rebounds.

Jordan Anderson scored 13 points for J/S while Patrick Terk and Henry Cole each had nine.

H-T (2-7 overall, 1-2 league) will be at Gilboa Wednesday.

Mount Markham 69, Cooperstown 61

Cooperstown fell to Mount Markham 69-61 on the road Monday.

Charlie Lambert led the Hawkeyes with 32 points, seven rebounds, six assists and six steals while Brody Murdock added 14 points and nine rebounds in the loss.

Jake Senko led Mount Markham with 29 points in the win.

Cooperstown will visit Sherburne-Earlville Friday.

Cherry Valley-Springfield 49, Gilbertsville-Mount Upton 48 (Friday)

Cherry Valley-Springfield held on to defeat Gilbertsville-Mount Upton Friday at home.

Max Horvath led the Patriots with 16 points while Duane Lefevre added 11 in the win.

Devon Hartwell had a game-high 33 points for G-MU while Noah Pain tallied 12 points in the loss.

C-VS will host Milford Wednesday while G-MU will host Sharon Springs Thursday.

Edmeston 52, Richfield Springs 24 (Friday)

Edmeston opened its game Friday with a 19-0 lead and never looked back in a 52-24 win over Richfield Springs.

Gavin McEnroe had 14 points while Preston Graham added 11 points in the win.

Bradyn Dunckel led Richfield Springs with eight points.

Edmeston will host Sharon Springs Tuesday while Richfield Springs will visit Sherburne-Earlville on the same day.

Delhi 81, Deposit-Hancock 36 (Friday)

Delhi used a 28-7 second-quarter to pull away from Deposit-Hancock in an 81-36 win on the road Friday.

Ivan Richardson hit five three-pointers and finished with 31 points and seven steals while Angelo Krzyston had a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds and Chuck Haight added 10 points and six assists in the win.

Blake Fortunato led D-H with 15 points while Zech Begeal added 10 in the loss.

Delhi improves to 7-2 and 3-0 in Midstate Athletic Conference play and will host Greene Wednesday.

South Kortright 76, Windham-Ashland-Jewett 18 (Thursday)

South Kortright defeated Windham-Ashland-Jewett 76-18 at home Thursday in Delaware League action.

Connor Quarino led the Rams with 20 points while Boston Quarino and Jack Byrne each had 11 points in the win.

The Rams will be at Roxbury Wednesday.
