Everton Fan View: Coleman's return is a huge boost for the Toffees

On Tuesday night Seamus Coleman played his first game of football for Everton since breaking his leg whilst on international duty for the Republic of Ireland. It was great to see him back, for a variety of reasons.

The first has little to do with football. He is one of the most popular figures at the club with both fans and players alike. When he broke his leg I was as personally gutted for him as I was for Everton. He is the epitome of what you want a player to be on the football pitch.

He plays with desire and passion, and he loves the club too. His charity work is also well-renowned, and is always keen to help Everton in the Community. The injury would have been a long and lonely road for him, it’s great that it’s finally over.

The second has everything to do with football, he’s been sorely missed. He has been one of our best players for a number of years and adds balance and a threat to our right hand side. Jonjoe Kenny has recently done well in his place, but he can’t yet claim to be anywhere near the same level as Coleman.

At 29, Coleman still has a good few years left in him at the top level and Everton need him back in the side as soon as possible.

The full-back struggle for Everton

An underrated aspect of why Everton have struggled this season has been the full-backs.

The team has lacked quality in those positions and in turn, the team has lacked balance in attack and defence.

With both Coleman and Leighton Baines missing, it has been a struggle. Hopefully the team gets them both back soon and the results will be a lot better for it.

When Neil Taylor delivered his horrendous shot on Coleman, my heart sank.

You immediately knew the seriousness for Ireland, him and Everton. Ireland missed out on going to the World Cup and Everton have had a terrible season, it’s no coincidence.

Not only is he a great player, he’s developed into a great leader and an ambassador for club and country.

Everton are lacking in leaders, and it’s another reason why Coleman’s return is an important one.

Thankfully the time in the hospital, leg cast, the physio room and the training ground has passed.

He has stepped out on a pitch for the Under 23 side and it won’t be long until he’s doing so for the first team. Everton need Seamus Coleman, and it’s great to have him back.
