COLLEGE ROUNDUP: Young, Racers hit Chicago

Feb. 21—Oakwood native and Murray State forward Katelyn Young and the Racers hit the road today to play in Chicago,

Murray State will face Illinois-Chicago today at 7 p.m. in a game that can help one of the teams with the Missouri Valley Conference season winding down.

The Racers (15-8) and the Flames (15-10) are both 8-6 in the MVC with Murray State losing its last two games.

The Racers lost to conference leaders Drake 81-75 last Thursday with Young scoring 20 points with 12 rebounds and four assists and lost a close 89-87 game to Northern Iowa as Young had 23 points, 11 rebounds and three assists.

Schlarman Academy graduate Anaya Peoples and the DePaul women's basketball team is staying in Chicago on Sunday for a game with No. 1 Connecticut at 5 p.m.

The Blue Demons are 12-16 and 4-11 in the Big East with three straight losses and is coming off a 91-78 loss to Seton Hall on Saturday. Peoples had 25 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and four steals in the game.

Fellow Schlarman grad Capria Brown and the Central Michigan women's basketball team have lost their last four games.

Brown had nine points with four rebounds as the Chippewas lost to Kent State 77-54 on Saturday, but did not play on Wednesday as the Chippewas lost to Ball State 78-54.

Central Michigan is 5-18 and 3-10 in the MAC and will take on Western Michigan on Saturday.

Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin grad Emily Meidel and the Eastern Illinois women's basketball team have won their last three games. The Panthers beat Southeast Missouri last Thursday with Meidel getting eight points and five rebounds. Meidel didn't play in Saturday's game: A 68-62 win over Lindenwood.

The Panthers are 12-15 and 9-5 in the Ohio Valley Conference and will travel to Tennessee State today.

Danville native Tevin Smith and the Cleveland State Men's Basketball Team have followed a win with a loss in the last few games coming into tonight's game with Northern Kentucky.

The Vikings beat Youngstown State on Saturday with Smith scoring six points with three rebounds, two steals and two assists.

The Vikings are 16-11 and 9-7 in the Horizon League.

Danville native Sean Houpt and the William and Mary boys basketball team have lost their last six games to drop to 8-19 and 3-11 in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Houpt did not play in last Thursday's 61-52 loss to Towson, but did play in a 65-57 loss to Charleston on Monday. Houpt had six points and five rebounds.

The Tribe will try to break that streak today as they host North Carolina-Wilmington.

The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team — coached by Danville native Stan Gouard — started the week with a 77-68 loss to UT-Martin last Thursday and an 82-60 loss to Arkansas-Little Rock on Saturday before beating Morehead State 80-73 on Tuesday.

The Screaming Eagles are 8-20 and 5-10 in the Ohio Valley Conference and will travel to Western Illinois University on Saturday.
