When we started Lightning Lap back in 2006, we chose Virginia International Raceway's challenging 4.1-mile Grand Course configuration because it's among the most difficult tracks in the country. Over the past 15 years, we've run just over 300 cars on that 35-turn crucible. But most track days at VIR run one of the track's shorter configurations, making it difficult for most people to get their hands on the Grand.

This year, we have a solution. On Tuesday, March 15, we'll be hosting a Lightning Lap track day and time trial in partnership with VIR's resident racing school, Kaizen Autosport. For $895, you'll get three 30-minute morning sessions to get up to speed, and then two 30-minute time-trial sessions in the afternoon to have a go at posting your best time. There are a total of nine classes—five street-car classes that mimic our LL price categories, plus four for non-street-legal machines—and each class winner takes home $1000, a trophy, and a one-year membership to our Track Club (which, among other things, gets you an invite to attend our next running of Lightning Lap).

See here for more details and sign up using promo code CDLL10 for 10 percent off the entry fee. Kaizen also provides rental options, so you don't even need to have your own track-ready vehicle. See you there!

In the meantime, we'll soon be launching all of our coverage from this year's Lightning Lap, with plenty of new records set by the cars pictured above.
