The Carabao Cup first round draw has been made and Reading will travel to League Two Colchester United.

Getting underway in the first midweek of the season (W/C August 12) the Royals get their 2024/25 campaign underway at Birmingham City on August 10.

Reading, number 26 in the southern section of the draw, were the last ball out of the draw and will travel to face Danny Cowley's League Two strugglers.

Last season, the Royals reached round two after shocking Millwall with a 4-0 win at the Den.

Ipswich Town, now of the Premier League, visited Berkshire for round two and needed a penalty shootout to knock out Ruben Selles' team following a thrilling 2-2 draw.

Reading have reached the quarter-final of the League Cup on two occasions, both in the mid-1990s, and are behind local rivals Oxford United and Swindon Town in that regard as both have lifted the cup in the past.
