Simon Donnelly believes Connor Barron would be a decent addition for Rangers.

The former Celtic hero worked with Barron for a brief period during his time as Mark Wilson's assistant manager at Brechin City in 2020. Barron, 21, then had a spell on loan with Kelty Hearts before making his first-team breakthrough at Aberdeen. The midfielder has emerged as one of the top talents in Scotland but is poised to leave Pittodrie after rejecting the chance to extend his contract beyond the summer.

Barron was widely expected to up sticks for Italy, with clubs in England also keen, but it's believed Gers have moved into pole position for his signature as Philippe Clement attempts to lure the Scotland Under-21 starlet to Ibrox. Clement is in the market for midfield reinforcements after releasing John Lundstram and Ryan Jack and Barron could add youth and quality while also boosting the Light Blues' homegrown quota for Europe.

A move to Glasgow would undoubtedly upset the Red Army, who turned on former skipper Jack for joining Rangers in 2017, but Donnelly believes Barron would be a shrewd capture.

He told Clyde Superscoreboard: "Listen, I think he's had a decent season. When I've seen him, I think he can play the lad. He's brave, he's got a wee bit of tenacity about him as well. Would he be a good signing for Rangers? I think he would."
