Connor Goldson handed bizarre £30m Rangers price tag as ex Aberdeen chief leaves fans gobsmacked

Former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness has bizarrely claimed Connor Goldson could command a fee of up to £30MILLION.

Goldson, 31, could end his six-year stay at Ibrox this summer with former boss Steven Gerrard's Al-Ettifaq and relegated Birmingham City among those linked. The veteran defender lost his place in Philippe Clement's starting XI in April before his season was curtailed through injury. One of the highest earners at the club, Rangers would be willing to cash in on the ex-Brighton defender to raise funds for new arrivals.

But former Dons and Aston Villa CEO Wyness has wildly suggested that Goldson could be worth up to £25-30m - and that League One side would be his likely destination.

He told Football Insider: "I think Birmingham seems to be the favourite and certainly that's what I'm hearing that most interest is at the moment for Goldson. I really don't know a valuation but I don't see him being much more than £25-30million. I know that Steven Gerrard would love him to be at Al-Ettifaq but again, that's the sort of money I see for Goldson.

"I don't see that as a market that being a market that I think Birmingham in League One... may be prepared to pay that. They've got big room for some money to be spent there. They are going to have a decent budget for League One, probably more than most clubs in the Championship. I think that's where he may end up and I think he'd do very well to go on the ride with Birmingham to get promoted and go on from there. I think that's where he's going to go."

Wyness' comments sparked uproarious laughter among Rangers fans on social media who couldn't believe what they'd just heard.

One joked: "I'm going to put my neck on the line here and say we will not sell Goldson for £25m. Don't ask how I know, just feel it in my bones." Another jested: "Get Keith up as CEO we'll make a fortune." While a third quipped: "Reluctantly accept."
