Conor McGregor vs Khabib Nurmagomedov announced for UFC 229

Conor McGregor has officially returned!

The UFC announced Friday that Conor McGregor who returns after nearly two years will face UFC lightweight Champ Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 on October 6thin Las Vegas.

McGregor last fought in the in octagon in 2016 when he defeated Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in a lightweight title bout to capture his second belt and become a two-time champion. Conor was stripped of both belts after taking time away from MMA competition.

Khabib Nurmagomedov who is undefeated in over 26 fights defeated Al Iaquinta to become the new lightweight champion. He and Conor now have a score to settle in what will be the biggest grudge match of the century. The feud between Conor and Khabib began at UFC 223 after a confrontation at a hotel between Khabib and Conor’s teammate Arterm Lobov. Conor and several associates turned up at the Barclay’s Centre.

McGregor threw a dolly at the UFC fighter bus which Khabib was travelling on injuring fighters Michael Chiesea and Ray Borg in the process. McGregor was charged and on 26thJuly agreed to a plea deal with the state of New York resulting in no jail time or criminal record. McGregor is now free to return and has his sights firmly set on Khabib on October 6th.
