Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz 2 Booked for UFC 202 on August 20

The rematch between featherweight champion Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz was scheduled to take place at UFC 200 on July 9, but McGregor was removed from the fight card after refusing to participate in the event's promotion. The rematch has been rebooked for UFC 202 on August 20. The announcement came during Saturday's UFC 199 pay-per-view event in Los Angeles.

McGregor and Diaz first fought at UFC 196 on March 5. McGregor was originally scheduled to face lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos, but dos Anjos was forced out of the fight due to injury. Diaz agreed to step in on short notice and defeated McGregor by submission in the second round after weathering a first-round onslaught from the Irishman.

According to UFC president Dana White, McGregor has been “obsessed” with making the rematch happen. Initial negotiations with Diaz didn't go well. Diaz wanted more money, and negotiations stalled. On Saturday, Diaz posted a video of himself slapping White with the caption, “getting deals done.” The deal got done. and the rematch is set.

The loss to Diaz at UFC 196 was the first UFC loss for McGregor and only his third career defeat.
