Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon officially returns to filming

Coronation Street fans are about to spot a familiar face on the cobbles as Lucy Fallon has officially started filming Bethany Platt's return storyline.

Fallon is reprising the role of Bethany in the ITV soap and has recorded a message to viewers directly from set. In the clip posted to Twitter/X, the actress sports a colourful jumper with a peace sign embroidered across and a leather miniskirt as she celebrates her first day back on set.

"It's my first day back filming today. I'm very excited," Fallon says in the video.

"A little bit nervous," she continued, adding: "I can't wait for you all to see what Bethany is up to."

Fallon's return was previously leaked over the summer, when it was reported that her new scenes back in Weatherfield would probably air after Christmas.

Bethany left the cobbles in 2020 to pursue a job opportunity in London, ending her relationship with Daniel Osbourne.

Speaking with Digital Spy on the red carpet at the Inside Soap Awards 2023, Fallon's onscreen mum Tina O'Brien, who plays Sarah Barlow, admitted to posting about her co-star's return before it was officially announced.

"I didn't know [Lucy's return] was still a secret and I put something on Instagram! I was like: 'I wasn't meant to do that, was I?' The press office was like: 'No, Tina, you were not meant to do that!'" the actress said.

It seems O'Brien has learnt her lesson as she was tightlipped about plot details concerning Bethany's return, though she did say Sarah's daughter is coming back "with a purpose".

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
