It is one of the most incredible moments in football history, happened right here in Carlisle – and is about to reach a significant milestone.

Goalkeeper Jimmy Glass’s goal which saved Carlisle United from relegation to non-league in 1999 is about to turn 25.

And we are marking the anniversary with a new mini-series taking us back a quarter of a century to one of the Blues’ most remarkable occasions.

We are delving back through the archives to chart the weeks and days leading up to the miracle of May 8.

What were the circumstances that preceded the famous day? What was happening at Brunton Park as the relegation vultures circled?

How did they end up signing Glass, what was said at the time – and what was the crescendo to that famous injury-time moment against Plymouth Argyle?

This mini-series, which starts on Saturday, is available to News & Star subscribers. In a new flash sale you can subscribe to this and all our full Carlisle United coverage for just £5 for the next five months – click HERE
