Jerry Jones says Dak Prescott could be 'ready to go' by April or May

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is never one to wallow in present misery. He’s already looking past Dak Prescott’s unfortunate season-ending ankle injury and into the future.

That future isn’t the remaining 11 regular season games the Cowboys have to play. He’s already looking at 2021, when he says Prescott will be totally healed and 100 percent ready to go. Jones is confident that Prescott will be physically ready to take part in football activities before the middle of 2021, which he revealed during an interview with 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday.

Prescott being back on the field by April or May would be great news for Cowboys fans, and, of course, for Prescott himself.

Jones wants less running from Dak

When Prescott does get back on the field, Jones already has a specific request: less running. He told 105.3 The Fan that he wants the coaches to be more mindful of how much running Prescott has to do, precisely because of the injury risk to his quarterback.

“What it does remind me of though is you cannot figure in as part of your offense is that you really are vulnerable when you put a running game in that really utilizes a lot of the running game with the quarterback,” he said on 105.3 The Fan, via Todd Archer of ESPN. “This game, you’re going to get hurt.”

Of course, the “less running” directive only matters if Prescott actually plays for the Cowboys in 2021. He’ll become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2020 season unless the Cowboys decide to franchise tag him for the second year in a row. Jones hasn’t shown his cards yet as far as contract negotiations, but he did give Dak fans a reason for hope.
