The ninth match of the CPL 2021 will be played between Trinbago Knight Riders and Saint Lucia Kings at St. Kitts on Tuesday. With one win in three games, Trinbago Knight Riders are currently sitting at the third position on the points table. On the other hand, Saint Lucia Kings won their first game on Sunday but still are languishing at the bottom of the table with one win in two games.

Both teams played against each other on Sunday with St. Lucia Kings winning the game by 5 runs. The Kings’ openers, R Cornwall (23 off 14) and A Fletcher (28 off 25) gave them a team a solid start, setting the foundation of a good score. Du Plessis (10 off 15), however, fell cheaply and this is a big concern for them. Tim David’s great form with the bat is keeping the team in good stead.

Tim David scored 43 off 32 balls, including 3 fours and as many sixes. He stitched a brilliant partnership with Roston Chase (30 off 24) to lead the team’s recovery. At the end of the first innings, St Lucia Kings amassed 157 in the first innings.

Trinbago Knight Riders didn’t start off too well in the second innings. Lendl Simmons and Tion Webster struggled to time the ball too well due to the slowness of the surface. Trinbago Knight Riders failed to play as per the required run rate. After 12 overs, they had only managed to score 70 runs for the loss of two wickets. Kieron Pollard came at number four but that didn’t help as well. Pollard could only manage to score 9 off 11 balls.

Colin Munro played an uncharacteristic knock of 40 runs off 46 balls but stayed unbeaten right till the end. Tim Siefert came in the 17th over and completely turned the game in a matter of a few overs. He gave his team hope of winning the game after scoring boundaries at a great pace. He played a brilliant 40 off 16 balls and almost won the game for the team.

However, a sensational over from Wahab Riaz denied Knight Riders of winning the game. The Trinbago Knight Riders eventually fell short of 5 runs. Both teams will once again square up against each other on Tuesday. Will Trinbago Knight Riders be able to make a comeback remains to be seen.
