What is it?

The 2019 Cricket World Cup final, the 12th of its kind and the culmination of 45 group stage matches and two semi-finals played over seven weeks. The tournament will be contested by 10 countries across 11 venues in England and Wales. After a round robin in which each nation plays each other once, two semi-finals - taking place at Old Trafford and Edgbaston - will determine the finalists.

When is it?

Sunday July 14.

What time will it start?

Play is due to begin at 10:30am BST.

Where is it taking place?

Where else but the home the cricket, Lord's in London. Lord’s also hosted the final of the inaugural World Cup in 1975, as well as the finals in 1979, 1983, 1999.

What TV channel will it be on?

Sky Sports will broadcast the entire tournament, including the final, live. The BBC has radio rights.

How can I get tickets?

The ballot for tickets took place last year, but there are some tickets available via the Cricket World Cup website. You will need to create and register an account to try and get your hands on them.

Who won the last World Cup?

Australia are the current champions and most successful team in the tournament’s 44 year history, with five wins.

The holders’ chances are boosted by the return of Steve Smith and David Warner after serving one-year bans for ball-tampering.

What is England’s record in the competition?

England have never won the World Cup, finishing as runner-up in 1979, 1987 and 1992.

Most recently, England did not qualify from the group stages in 2015 after four defeats (to Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh) in six games.

But they go into this tournament as the world number one. Outgoing head coach Trevor Bayliss - who leaves his role in September - will be hopeful of carrying momentum through to the Ashes, which begin on Thursday 1 August.
