Cris Cyborg Doesn't Believe People Will Talk About a Fight with Ronda Rousey

Cris Cyborg Claims Germaine de Randamie UFC Title Fight Set for July

Don't put all your hope on Cris “Cyborg” Justino fighting Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate or Holly Holm at 135 pounds. Not yet, anyway.

Cyborg made her successful UFC debut on Saturday at UFC 198. She wasn't, however, calling anyone out that might get you excited for her sophomore effort in the Octagon. Instead, Cyborg said that while she may be open to superfights, she would like to defend her Invicta 145-pound title.

“I’ve been training for two years to be able to make weight,” Justino said at the post-fight press conference. “I felt very well tonight and I believe that I can do other superfights, but I’m going to continue in my weight class. I’ve been the champion for some time and I want the female MMA to grow. I don’t think it’s the right thing for me to abandon my weight class.”

Cyborg steamrolled through Leslie Smith on the pay-per-view portion of the UFC 198 broadcast, winning the bout via technical knockout. With her debut out of the way, the question that lingered was whether or not she would call out Rousey for a long-anticipated match-up with the women's MMA superstar. Not only did Cyborg not call out Rousey, she said she doesn't believe people will talk about it much.

“Talking about her is not something that people are going to talk about,” Cyborg said of Rousey, adding, “but I let my fans decide on who my opponent will be and I just have to be ready.”

Regardless of Cyborg's view of fan interest in a fight between her and Rousey, she said she's ready if that's the bout that's coming her way. Will it happen at 135 pounds? No one knows for sure. It seems at this point that Cyborg's next fight will be at featherweight in Invicta, unless the UFC opens up a its own 145-pound women's division.

Will they?

“I don’t know. We have to send [Dana White] a message,” she answered when asked if she believes there will be a women's featherweight division in the UFC. “I’ve been doing judo for the past year to fight someone, but I’ve been waiting for the opportunity.”
