Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed that he could call time on his career as early as next summer... or play into his 40s.

Ronaldo, who turned 34 years old in February, is one year into a four-year contract with Juventus and recently helped Portugal win the Uefa Nations League.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has previously stated that he wants to play beyond his 40th birthday but has now opened the door to a much earlier retirement.

"I don't think about that," Ronaldo told TVI. "Maybe I can finish my career next year... but I can also play up to 40 or 41.

"I don't know. What I always say is to enjoy the moment. The gift is excellent and I have to continue to enjoy it."
