Must haves

Defenders

A good option this week could come in the shape of Ben Davies. He was rested in the loss to Chelsea in the FA cup at the weekend so we imagine he’ll start against Palace as he has started in Spurs’ last 9 league games. Spurs look in red hot form at the moment and they have kept 5 clean sheets out of those 9 games Davies has appeared in. He also pushes on up the wings so has the potential to return some attacking points too.

Midfielders

Spurs will be looking to bounce back from their FA Cup semi final defeat against Chelsea on Saturday and Dele Alli will be key for them. Alli picked up a goal in that FA Cup tie but you just have to look at his league record recently to see how much of a must have this guy is. 5 goals and 4 assists from Spurs’ last 7 is a record you can’t turn your nose up at. He’ll also be boosted after his victory at the PFA’s on Sunday night so we expect him to shine once again against Palace this week.

If you want some options outside of Spurs to consider, look at Sergio Aguero. He too scored in the FA Cup this weekend and has scored in 6 of the last 7 Premier League games for Manchester City, a great record. Hopefully he should overcome his knock and if he does, he’ll be up for extending that record in the Manchester derby come Thursday.

The man whose goal led to City’s exit from the cup is our next must-have, Alexis Sanchez. Leicester’s form may dip after their Champions League exit and they may now consider themselves safe with surely only another win from their last 6 games doing the job. Alexis has 4 goals and an assist from 7 league games and we expect that to improve this Wednesday. Our final must have pick is Harry Kane. Now back from injury, and completing our list of players who scored at Wembley this weekend just gone, he will be looked to in order to keep Spurs’ title hopes alive. He was unlucky not to score on his return in the league against Watford but made sure he netted and assisted last time out against Bournemouth. Couple that with the form of the midfielders Alli, Eriksen & Son behind him, we expect him to deliver this week.

Must nots

Defenders

Crystal Palace are on the back of an incredible performance at Anfield, as they came away with all 3 points. This week however, they face a tough fixture against a free scoring Spurs side, so it may be wise to avoid the likes of Joel Ward and Patrick van Aanholt. Our final must not defender is Robert Huth. Leicester have been in some great form since the sacking of Claudio Ranieri, however they take a trip to the Emirates to play against an Arsenal side who look like they may have just found some form! Leicester are also lacking at the back, having only kept a clean sheet on 2 out of the last 12 league attempts.

Midfielders

Spurs midfielder Heung-min Son has been in some terrific form of late, however after giving the penalty away against Chelsea, the South Korean could be rested. Spurs do have a decent fixture from a fantasy football perspective, however there are better options elsewhere. Our final must not midfielder of the week is Palace’s Wilfried Zaha, who seems to have lost the form he had a few gameweeks ago. As mentioned, Palace have a tough game against Spurs and they may find it a bit harder to break down the Spurs backline than they did the Liverpool backline! That being said, even when they did break down the Liverpool defence, there were no fantasy returns for Zaha.

Following on from the point above, our first must not forward is Christian Benteke. The big Belgian was fantastic at the weekend, scoring twice against his former club. It is somewhat unlikely to see a repeat of this as Palace host Spurs, who will be looking to keep the pressure on Chelsea. Our final must not of the week’s fixtures is Jermain Defoe. This pick isn’t based on the individual, its more based on the players around him, as Defoe clearly struggles to get any service, which is evident from his latest goal drought (no goals in 8!).
