Daizen Maeda could be set to make a stunning return from injury for Celtic's title run-in.

The Japanese star was expected to miss the rest of the season after suffering a serious hamstring injury earlier this month. But Maeda could now make a shock comeback after responding well to treatment. Celts Are Here reports that boss Brendan Rodgers shared the positive update during a private Q&A with shareholders on Wednesday night.

And it means the winger could now be available for the final six fixtures of the season as Celts chase a domestic Double. Maeda has tormented Rangers right-back James Tavernier in recent Old Firm derbies and the 26-year-old's return for the May 11 showdown at Parkhead would be a major boost for the champions.

Speaking previously, Rodgers had said: "I’m not sure we’ll see Daizen again this season, I don’t expect him to feature too much. It’s such a small window now."

Rodgers will be quizzed on Maeda's fitness when he speaks the the media at Lennoxtown tomorrow ahead of Sunday's trip to Dens Park.
